Obviously, Vanya is the monster. The house doesn’t need to be physical, though in this case it could be, but it’s also metaphorical: the house is the Academy and all it represents; it’s the cell in the basement; it’s the Hargreeves family. It’s the ticking time bomb of the apocalypse which has trapped everyone and causes them to make terrible decisions.
