I’ve always thought that having every character in the game tell you something that is 100% correct is simply not realistic. Especially in a town populated by cutthroats, brigands, cheats, and liars. Things are arguably more ‘lifelike’ if answers can only be gathered by piecing together overlapping parts in several recollections of the same story.
