Playing With / Timed Mission

Basic Trope: The player must finish a mission in a finite amount of time, or they fail.

  • Straight: One mission in the game is escaping the burning tower in minute or they fail it.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Every mission in the game has a set amount of time to complete.
    • The time limit for escaping the tower is five seconds.
  • Downplayed:
    • Once the timer runner out, the player doesn't immediately lose the mission but start taking damage gradually from now on until they escape.
    • The player only needs to escape a certain part of a tower in time, not the whole tower.
  • Justified: The player will die from the fire if they don't escape quickly.
  • Inverted: The player is attacked in the tower and must hold his position for a finite amount of time. If he manages to survive, the mission is won.
  • Subverted: The player is given a mission of escaping the burning tower. Surprisingly, you got as much time as you want to escape.
  • Double Subverted: …But in order to get the Gold rank, you need to escape the tower in a minute or less.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: There is no time limit.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???

  • Deconstructed: The timed mission clashes with the tone of the rest of the game and as a result, the gamers see it as That One Level.
