Basic Trope: A theme song has the characters singing their names or about who they are.

  • Straight: The theme song to Super-Powered Robot Meter Maids goes:
Deka: Come and meet the crew! We'll tell you who's who! (Just don't get on my bad side!)
Nixie: I do my job well, with a smile!
Coro: I always work to keep roads clean!
Kath: ...wanna be friends? It could take a while...
Neo: I'D DO ANYTHING FOR YOU, MY QUEEN!
  • Exaggerated:
    • The theme song introduces the group of heroes, the group of villains, and every faction in the show.
    • The theme song describes all the characters, even minor ones.
  • Downplayed: The theme song tells you who Deka is and mentions vaguely that she has a crew, but nothing more specific.
  • Justified:
    • In-universe, the characters made the song themselves. They each knew how they wanted to be represented, and they thought it would give viewers a better impression.
    • It's an in-universe advertising jingle for the SPRMM temping agency. note
  • Inverted:
    • The end credits have a song about the characters.
    • The theme song and intro don't even mention that the show has characters.
  • Subverted: It sounds like the song is describing the characters, but it's talking about something else.
  • Double Subverted: Then it really is about the characters.
  • Parodied:
    • The song is incredibly self-serving and biased towards the main character, who looks down upon the others.
    • The characters regularly interrupt each other because they want to sing about themselves.
  • Zig-Zagged: The song alternates between having lyrics about the characters, talking about the place they live, then talking about their job, then being instrumental. And it plays at varying points through an episode.
  • Averted: The show has an Instrumental Theme Tune.
  • Enforced: "Let's make sure the audience isn't confused about who these characters are."
  • Lampshaded:
Deka: Pretty catchy theme tune we've got! I think Neo's line is the best, honestly...
  • Invoked:
Neo: If we're gonna have a theme song, shouldn't it tell people who we are?
  • Exploited: One of the characters explicitly wants to have a line in the theme song because they're an Attention Whore and want the spotlight to focus on them.
  • Defied: The characters aren't comfortable with singing their own lines, so they opt to just compose an instrumental.
  • Discussed: "I wonder what our theme tune would sound like? Would we all be singing it?"
  • Conversed: "I like when shows have intros that tell you who the characters are."
  • Played for Horror: During a Hostile Show Takeover, the characters' lines change to be incredibly disturbed and unsettled by the new villain.
