Basic Trope: Wealthy characters can't get enough money.

  • Straight: Bob is a billionaire. If he stopped working, he'd still have enough to live comfortably for the rest of his natural life. But rather than stop working, he keeps his job and takes in millions each year.
  • Exaggerated: Bob basically runs a monopoly on widgets, and has enough money to last himself and his Trophy Wife Alice several lifetimes. Not only does he prevent other widgeteers from competing with him, he barely pays his workers (i.e. the people who make, service, ship, and advertise the widgets), and lets them work in deplorable conditions just to save money.
  • Downplayed: When Bob's workers demand raises, he reluctantly caves for the sake of appearances.
  • Justified:
    • To Bob, having more money is a sign that he's more valuable; he doesn't know any other way to define himself.
    • Bob enjoys his job. The pay is secondary.
    • Bob makes huge investments.
    • It takes a certain level of Greed to achieve the same amounts of wealth Bob has accumulated.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob gives away all his wealth and goes to live as The Hermit on some mountain somewhere.
    • Bob decides to retire at the age of 35.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob steps down from his position as CEO of Widgetex.
    • Bob donates to charity.
  • Double Subverted: He sells his company to MegaCorp for $700 million.
    • Just so he can get write-offs on his taxes; in the end, he pays almost nothing in taxes. And some of these "charities" are more like groups of lobbyists that Bob "invests" in to ensure that he doesn't have to pay taxes and doesn't have to abide by regulations.
  • Parodied: Despite being a billionaire, Bob would literally kill for a penny. And he has.
  • Zig-Zagged:
  • Averted: Bob is not wealthy.
  • Enforced: Slobs Versus Snobs
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Bob decides to enter the Megaball lottery, even though he's already a billionaire.
  • Exploited: Bob makes "donations" to lobbyists and politicians that will protect his interests.
  • Defied: Bob decides he's going to be content with what he has.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed:
    • Billionaire Bob gets too consumed by greed that people start growing suspicious of his behavior. He can get as much money as he wants, but it will only end up with him behind bars.
    • Billionaire Bob becomes a trillionaire but grows tired and bored as there is nothing to spend his money on.
  • Reconstructed:
    • To Bob, greed--for lack of a better word--is good. He just wants money and he'd rather work his ass off than retire.
    • Trillionaire Bob can just buy a sports car or two to go to work using the money he gained from his job.
