Basic Trope: The world as currently understood comes to an end.
- Straight: The world comes to an end through one of the usual means.
- Exaggerated:
- Apocalypse How
- Not only the world, but all of the cosmos and every individual reality ends simultaneously in the most over-the-top manner possible.
- Downplayed: The end of the world is metaphorical.
- Justified: The world is not a very stable place.
- Inverted: A new world comes into existence, literally or figuratively.
- Subverted:
- The world only turns into a different, slighly grungier place.
- At the very last instant, the world is saved from total destruction...
- Double Subverted: ...for now.
- Parodied: People have predicted the end of the world so many times that when it actually comes, no one pays any attention.
- Zig Zagged: The end date for the world is set, but manages to be delayed several times through the efforts of a few selfless people. However, none of these efforts come to anything, as the world eventually does end.
- Averted: The world doesn't end.
- Enforced: The end of the world is as inevitable as death.
- Lampshaded: Everyone runs around screaming "It's the end of the world!"
- Invoked: Various doomsday cults try to predict the end of the world.
- Exploited: Unscrupulous individuals use the end of the world as a justification for doing what they please.
- Defied: The world doesn't—and can't ever—end.
- Discussed: Several people get together to figure out various threats to the world.
- Conversed: People in the know give details on just how the world will end.
- Implied: Things in the world are going south pretty fast.
- Deconstructed: Because the world ending is taken as a given, no one bothers trying to accomplish much or improve anything while living. It's all going to end anyway, so why bother?
- Reconstructed: Most people take the end of the world calmly, while trying to enjoy the time they have.
It's the end of the Playing With page as we know it, and I feel like going back to the trope.
