Basic Trope: A black character who personifies the Rule of Cool.

  • Straight: Bob is a black man who talks slang, dances smoothly, and knows how to kick ass perfectly.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is a afro-haired black man who is so cool that every woman in the world, of any race, would Squee whenever they saw him.
  • Downplayed: Bob is a black man who, while cool, is not as cool as the rest of the cast.
  • Justified:
    • One of the internal rules of the story's universe is Rule of Cool.
    • The story's universe gravitates towards black people.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender Inverted: Alice is a Soul Sista.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob acts and looks cool, but everyone thinks he's a loser.
    • Bob certainly looks cool, but he has no personality or appeal whatsoever.
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...because they're secretly envious of his personality.
    • ...until he gets a nice dose of Character Development.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: We meet several characters that look and act like Bob, all of them of different races, but Bob is still considered the coolest of all.
  • Averted:
    • Bob is black, but not to the point of being either cool or nerdy.
    • The work has no black characters.
    • The work doesn't run on Rule of Cool.
  • Enforced: The producer ordered to writers to makes Bob, an already existing character, to be black in order to make the cast more diverse and capitalise on the "black is cool" trend.
  • Lampshaded: "If you want to talk about the coolest person in the world, he's black."
  • Invoked: Bob doesn't like his nerdy personality, so he decides to make himself cool.
  • Exploited: Bob already has the style, so he decides the play the part of a cool guy.
  • Defied: Bob looks at people perceived as cool and says to himself "Nah, that style doesn't suit me".
  • Discussed: "You know Bob, you already have a nice personality, I bet if you changed your clothes and learn a couple of moves you'd be a lady killer".
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: By having a character charming, stylish and badass, the show becomes very popular with black people, and for very good reason.
  • Reconstructed: Bob (and by extension the authors) uses his personality and popularity to send a message about how everyone can be cool.
