Basic Trope: Organized troopers vs brutal militants.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia, you have two main protagonists: Sir Robert, the Knight in Shining Armor, and Highland Terror Claidheamh, the Barbarian Hero. Sir Robert is a steadfast and Consummate Professional, being The Fettered in regards to his rules, while Highland Terror Claidheamh is a wild and Proud Warrior Race Guy, being The Unfettered in regards to his (lack of) rules.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Sir Robert lets loose a little, enjoying the spoils of war through lavish banquets, while Highland Terror Claidheamh is always uptight and disciplined, always going through Training from Hell whenever he's not fighting.
  • Justified: It's how they were brought up; Sir Robert was brought up in a kingdom where he was taught chivalry and other codes of conduct, while Highland Terror Claidheamh was brought up in a Doomed Hometown that taught him how to survive and get by without needing any codes of conduct at all.
  • Inverted: Sir Robert is a pitiful excuse of a soldier: He's undisciplined, lazy, and idiotic, often lacking tactics and strategy to win wars. Highland Terror Claidheamh on the other hand is a pitiful excuse of a warrior: He's easily scared, views combat as a grim method to get by in life, and is The Fettered to a nonexistent code of conduct, often relying on deceit and trickery because he's too scared to actually fight people.
  • Subverted: Sir Robert turns out to be an overly brutal and Rabid Cowboy Cop who constantly flaunts the rules, while Claidheamh is quite honorable and kind underneath his brusque exterior.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Soldiers and Barbarians are simply just two sides, both of them having very mixed kinds of people, from The Fettered Knight Templars to snarling, Always Chaotic Evil lunatics, both on each side.
  • Averted: There is no contrast between professional soldiers and brutal warriors.
  • Enforced: "So some of our viewers are gonna want a Knight in Shining Armor, but others are gonna want an Anti-Hero. Which one should be our protagonist?" "Why not both?"
  • Lampshaded: "So, we got the smooth knight and the rough barbarian? How original."
  • Invoked: Sir Robert and Claidheamh are paired together for the mission because their differing styles will complement each other.
  • Exploited: Evulz sows distrust amongst the two heroes, telling Sir Robert that Claidheamh is a loose cannon and telling Claidheamh that Sir Robert is holding him back.
  • Defied:
    • As soon as Claidheamh is recruited by the heroes, they demand that he play by the rules or leave.
    • As soon as Sir Robert is recruited by the villains, they demand that he let loose and break some rules or leave.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
