- Straight: Bob sees a beautiful (and totally out of his league) woman at some Local Hangout. He ponders how (or if) he could make her want to be with him, then gets an idea. He goes home, and applies Chainsaw Body Spray. (He does nothing, however, about his greasy combover, Outdated Outfit, lack of appropriate conversational topics, poor social skills, or off-putting demeanor.) Alice finally notices him, and abandons her boyfriend Charles to be with Bob.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob applies the body spray, and every female (including some underage) within a ten-mile radius starts taking off their clothes and chasing after him.
- Bob doesn't even need to apply the spray, only to have it in his hand/basket/cart on the way to the checkout line at the drugstore for girls to lust after him.
- Downplayed: Bob applies the spray, and though he walks through a veritable male fantasy (women of various professions wearing skimpy costumes, beautiful women making out with one another), and all the women take notice, they don't try to rape him or anything.
- Justified:
- Chainsaw Body Spray is some kind of Love Potion, or contains ''highly'' concentrated (synthetic) male sex pheromones.
- Chainsaw Body Spray instantly and noticeably transforms Bob from a poorly-dressed, poorly-groomed, non-charismatic Loser Protagonist into the ultimate Adonis.
- Or it doesn't actually do the above, but it does make him feel more confident... And perhaps motivates him into putting more effort into that all-important first impression.
- Inverted: Bob applies the spray, and every female within a ten-mile radius keels over from the stench or runs away and hides.
- Gender Inverted: Alice spots Bob at the Local Hangout. She goes out and buys a Bacon-Wrapped Bacon Burrito from Burrito Barn. Bob takes notice of her and ditches the buxom blonde he was talking to in order to go be with Alice.
- Subverted:
- Bob returns home, applies the spray, and puts the moves on Alice. Alice walks away in disgust, or reminds him that she already has a boyfriend and/or only likes him as a friend.
- Bob finds out that she's a lesbian.
- Bob starts to feel attracted to the first thing he sees after applying the spray, as it's apply-on-target, not apply-on-self.
- Double Subverted:
- But another attractive girl takes notice of Bob and asks if the seat next to him is taken.
- Bob becomes a Dogged Nice Guy, wearing the body spray every time he goes to see Alice...who eventually falls for him when she takes notice of how good he smells.
- Who smells the spray and decides she'll "make an exception" for Bob.
- Parodied:
- Bob applies Chainsaw body spray, and women take no more notice of him than before. But men think he "smells real purdy" and flock to him.
- Bob sprays Chainsaw on himself, and suddenly every sapient creature on the face of the Earth is fighting to have him - likely causing the downfall of society.
- Zig Zagged: Some women find body-sprayed Bob attractive, some think he'd be better if he'd ditch the leisure suit and get rid of the combover and/or work on his social skills and Geek Physique, and some find him repulsive.
- Averted: Bob doesn't apply Chainsaw Body Spray.

- Bob notices Alice, who is waaaaay out of his league, and wants to do something to improve his chances with her.

- Exploited: The local drugstore stocks up on Chainsaw body spray because Bob and others like him will be convinced by the commercials.
- Defied:
- Bob decides to just go talk to her. Even if she happens to reject him, there are plenty of other fish in the sea...and girls at the bar.
- Bob works on his sloppy appearance and social skills. His overall success with women and his overall confidence improves dramatically.
- Discussed: "So, if I use Chainsaw Body Spray, girls will like me?"
- Conversed: "Those commercials are nothing like real life. No matter what scent a man wears, women won't flock to him that easily."
- Deconstructed:
- Bob finds that he doesn't appreciate being stared at or treated like he's a piece of meat.
- Alice takes notice of Bob, but though she likes his cologne, she's not happy in the relationship, or still finds Bob too repulsive to actually date or sleep with.
- The cologne comes off too strong and makes other people (including Alice) physically ill.
- Alice is offended that Bob would think that something as silly as cologne would attract her, or that "All women are the same and therefore will find this attractive."
