Basic Trope: A character has rhyming first and last names, or has a rhyming descriptor to go with their name.
- Straight: Creepy Loner Girl Mary is often called Scary Mary. Her surname is Larry.
- Exaggerated: Mary has an Overly Long Name that's 12 pages long, and all of them rhyme.
- Downplayed: Robert Cobb is sometimes called Bob. He is also a cop, though people refer to him as Officer Cobb or Officer Bob, rather than Bob Cobb or Bob the Cop.
- Justified: Mary hails from a Quirky Town where most people speaks in rhymes, so it's only logical that they would give her a rhyming name and nickname.
- Inverted: Alliterative Name
- Subverted: Mary gets married, and changes her last name. Thanks to her new husband, she Took a Level in Cheerfulness and is no longer called Scary Mary.
- Double Subverted: The groom's surname is Kerry.
- Parodied: A would-be mother goes to RhymeZone to find a name and possible nicknames for her unborn child despite the fact that her surname is a Least Rhymable Word.
- Zigzagged: But Kerry is just a stage name. The groom's actual surname is Cuthbert. But the couple doesn't think much of that surname and goes by Mr. and Mrs. Kerry in public, and Mary is still known as Scary Mary Kerry.
- Averted: Mary doesn't have rhyming names. She doesn't even have a surname.
- Enforced: Mary is the main character of a Nursery Rhyme. Her name has to rhyme so that little kids would easily remember her.
- Lampshaded: "Mary Larry, Alice Wallace, Bob Cobb... Why does everyone in this town have rhyming names?"
- Invoked: Mary's parents deliberately name her such because it rhymes with their surname.
- Exploited: Mary's English teacher assigns the class to write a poetry. Mary simply writes down her name and nicknames, and somehow gets an A for it.
- Defied:
- Mary legally changes her name to Maria so that neither her nickname nor her surname rhymes with it.
- Mary refuses to disclose her surname, and threatens to curse anyone who calls her "Scary Mary".
- Discussed: "My name is a poetry, in and of itself."
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: Mary Larry is picked on at school for her rhyming names.
