Go To

Basic Trope: Birds of prey are honorable and respectable.

  • Straight: Lance is The Ace of the team. His pet eagle reinforces his noble qualities and respectable status.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Lance is seen as a rather cool guy, and simply happens to have a pet eagle.
    • Lance is a noble guy, and his eagle is very tame, but it gets frightened easily and has a habit of squawking at people, making it seem less noble and cool..
  • Justified: Birds of prey are seen as rather respectable animals in real life.
  • Inverted: Lance has an aggresive and cruel eagle as his minion.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted:
    • An Androcles' Lion moment resolves the conflict.
    • And then it turns out that Lance is protecting the innocent by secretly disposing of the cute puppies, which are in fact Always Chaotic Evil.
  • Parodied:
    • Lance and his pet eagle are seen as super cool all because they picked up a piece of trash from the sidewalk.
    • Lance and his pet Eagle are viewed ss The Dreaded by mice.
  • Zig-Zagged: The respectability of eagles vary from time period to time period.
  • Averted:
    • There is nothing unique about birds of prey.
    • There aren't any birds of prey.
  • Enforced: Lance was originally not intended to have a pet because it would be out of character, but the executives demanded to add an eagle on his shoulder to further convey Lance's respectable status.
  • Lampshaded: "Why is it always a cool eagle that saves the day? Why not a parrot?"
  • Invoked: The people of Troperia are awed by eagles taking flight and killing their prey like badasses, so they start a religion with the eagle as the patron deity.
  • Exploited: The superhero Lance knows that his homeland, Troperia, lionises the eagle, and thus develops his kit that revolves around eagles, in hopes of enhancing his publicity.
  • Defied: Sus the Snake starts a smearing campaign to portray eagles as cruel and vicious rather than noble, using the various instances on eagles preying on snakes as proof.
  • Discussed: "Do I get my own pet eagle once I become a cool guy?"
  • Conversed: "You ever notice how birds of prey are often portrayed as super cool in movies?"
  • Deconstructed: As cool as it looks, eagles aren't meant to be kept as pets by even experienced falconers, and Lance doesn't take good care of it.
  • Reconstructed: But with a little bit of training, the eagle can and will become Lance's pet.
