Playing With / Noble Bigot with a Badge

Basic Trope: A cop who is rough but is a good cop.
  • Straight: Detective Bob dislike certain ethnic groups, but refuses to cover up crimes against them, and only goes after them if the evidence is strong.
  • Exaggerated: When Detective Alice tells her partner Bob about a suspect of a certain ethnicity, he flies into a rant about how those people are nothing but criminals and troublemakers, and then adds "but we got to prove that first, maybe he is innocent".
  • Downplayed: Detective Bob uses slurs when off the clock, but does not when on the clock because it is not professional.
  • Justified: Bob cares about the welfare of society and understands that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
  • Inverted: Detective Bob is super polite but is Affably Evil.
  • Subverted: Detective Bob states he can not go after Charlie an ethnic suspect without evidence, but then goes pursues him after finding a bit of shaky evidence, and ignores all other evidence that does not fit his theory.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out the suspect is actually guilty, Bob acknowledges that not all of Charlie's people are bad, but Charlie is.
  • Parodied: Detective Bob hates criminals, but won't arrest someone just because they're a criminal. He isn't vey good at his job.
  • Zig Zagged: Detective Bob's rudeness varies depending on his mood at the time.
  • Averted: Detective Bob is polite.
  • Enforced: 'We can't have an authority figure be a complete racist!'
  • Lampshaded: "You're a real jerk to suspects." "I know. That's why I'm the Good Cop."
  • Invoked: Bob is hired so that he can get over his prejudices.
  • Exploited: A criminal gets off Scott-free by accusing Bob of being biased against his case.
  • Defied: "Enough of being the rude one. I need to shape up my attitude."
  • Discussed: 'Some cops don't let prejudice get in the way of their work. But what good is a prejudice if you don't use it?'
  • Conversed: 'So he's a racist who doesn't act racist? Weird'
