Basic Trope: A party is used as a pretense to kill others.

  • Straight: Alice invites Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva to a party at her house. Once the party is in full swing, the guests begin dropping dead from the poison in the refreshments.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice invites the entire township to a party. Once the party is in full swing, she has a bomb dropped on the site from orbit.
    • Alice invites Bob, Charlie, Jasmine and Billy to a party in her house, swearing that she will not do anything funny, and unleashes her legions of soldiers onto them with an order to Take No Prisoners and extra pay to the better sadists. The event gets immortalized with the nickname of "The Bloody Party".
  • Downplayed: Alice invites Bob to a private dinner at her house and poisons his soup.
  • Justified: Alice is Faux Affably Evil, and manipulated her enemies with a nice invitation.
  • Inverted: Alice invites Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva to a party at her house. Once the party is in full swing, all of them turn on her and kill her.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice invites Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva to a party at her house, which seems odd because all of them have grossly wronged her in the past. But it turns out Alice is just a Nice Girl.
    • Alice is seen slipping something into the food, but nothing happens to the guests.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Unfortunately, her Split Personality, the Judge, is not.
    • Nothing happens during the party, because Alice would not ruin a lively evening, even with her enemies. A few days later they all drop dead.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice invites Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva to a party, which seems odd because all of them have grossly wronged her. However, it turns out Alice is just a Nice Girl. But her Split Personality, The Judge, is not, and has been plotting to use the party to get revenge. However, before anyone can actually die, Alice breaks loose and begins fighting the Judge for control. The guests take advantage of this to kill her.
  • Averted:
    • No parties occur in the story.
    • Alice kills Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva in an open way, rather than tricking them with a party.
  • Enforced:
    • In the original version, Bob, Charlie, Dracone, and Eva were just at Alice's house for no particular reason. The editor suggests a party to explain their presence.
    • The Red Wedding was a truly shocking Wham Episode. The writers want to Homage it.
  • Lampshaded:
Bob: I've heard of throwing a killer party, but this is ridiculous!
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Bob arrives at the party fully aware of Alice's intentions and plans to catch her in the act to send her to jail.
  • Defied:
    • The Council of Hero/Villain Activities has very strict rules about Sacred Hospitality that extend to parties of all sorts (especially attempted Red Wedding rip-offs) and polices them harshly.
    • Everybody refuses to go to any activities that Alice has had any hand in helping organize.
    • Alice doesn't sees the practicality of organizing a party to ambush her opponents (when regular ambushes would do a similar or better result and much cheaper, too) and thus doesn't makes any.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
