Basic Trope: A character thinks another character is pregnant.
- Straight: Bob thinks Alice is pregnant because she is having Wacky Cravings, appears a little tubbier than usual, and threw up after breakfast.
- Exaggerated: As soon as Bob sees Alice eating something weird, he thinks she's pregnant.
- Downplayed:
- Bob wonders if Alice might be pregnant.
- Bob doesn't actually think Alice is pregnant, but he does hear her talking about "adoption" out of context, and believes that she's planning on adopting a baby. It turns out she's thinking of adopting a pet.
- Justified: Alice gained weight because she was underweight and needed to, she threw up because of anxiety and she just has hankerings, however Bob didn't know Alice was underweight or worried or just wanted food and thought she was pregnant.
- Inverted:
- Bob thinks Alice is ill when she's actually pregnant.
- Bob recognizes Alice as pregnant before she herself notices.
- Subverted: But then Alice is seen with a baby.
- Double Subverted: That baby is adopted or is Carol's baby.
- Parodied: Bob pokes Alice's Balloon Belly and asks when she's due, confusing Alice.
- Zig Zagged: Sometimes Bob thinks Alice is pregnant, other times he thinks she's not.
- Averted: Bob doesn't mistake Alice for pregnant.
- Enforced: To throw in some Cringe Comedy.
- Invoked:
- Charlie slips a drug into Alice's food to not harm her but induce vomiting in the morning, weight gain and food cravings.
- Pillow Pregnancy
- Lampshaded: "Whoops, I thought you were pregnant."

- Defied: Bob decides to refrain from assuming anything about Alice. He just asks her "Are you feeling okay?" instead.
- Discussed: "Are you pregnant?" "Uh, no." "Don't worry, I often mistake women for pregnant".
- Conversed: "That character better learn the other one's not pregnant or else."
- Deconstructed: Alice worries about being fat as a result of Bob mistaking her for pregnant.
- Reconstructed: She's Fat and Proud—even though she's not fat!
- Played for Laughs: Alice has no idea why she is not allowed to drink alcohol and Bob keeps going on about being a "daddy".
- Played for Drama:
- Invokes Weight Woe or romance angst.
- Bob assumes that Alice is pregnant — and because she's not married, he engages in some public Slut-Shaming. By the time he realizes that he was wrong, her reputation has been shredded.
- Alice's abdomen is getting larger and she frequently vomits, so people (including Alice herself) assume that she's pregnant. It turns out that she has a tumor that's slowly killing her.
