Basic Trope: Librarians are inherently wacky and eccentric.
- Straight: Despite being the head of the Gray Town Library, Hannah is a bit off her rocker.
- Exaggerated: Hannah is Fun Personified in the form of a librarian.
- Downplayed: Despite her high spirits, Hannah is very good at her job, and strictly enforces the rules in "her domain".
- Justified:
- Hannah is new to Grey Town, and tries to go against the stereotype of stuffy, boring librarians as much as possible.
- Hannah wants to teach the kids that Reading Is Cool, hard to do when you're The Bore.
- Inverted: Hannah approaches her job with total straight-laced seriousness, almost to the point where people find her off-putting.
- Subverted: Despite starting with high hopes, the steady grind of the job and the general unhelpfulness of Grey Town Library's patrons makes Hannah a lot less quirky and a lot more neurotic very quickly.
- Parodied: Hannah dresses like a turn-of-the-century schoolmarm as part of her "image".
- Zig Zagged: Depending on her workload and the respect patrons show toward her books, Hannah can shift from bubbly to brutal in the wink of an eye.
- Averted: Hannah doesn't go to extremes for her job as a librarian. It's just a job, after all.
- Enforced: As a naturally upbeat person, Hannah wants to bring some cheer to her workplace.
- Lampshaded: People comment on Hannah's "unorthodox" method of getting people to pay their late fees.
- Invoked: To get kids to enjoy reading more, Hannah approaches her job with a sense of verve to teach them that books can be fun as well as educational.
- Defied: Hannah is a librarian, but due to her shyness doesn't have much interaction with her charges.
- Exploited: Putting people off their guard is what Hannah likes to do best, and since no one expects it from a librarian, for her it's the perfect approach to her job.
- Discussed: In laying out her initiative for the library, Hannah is questioned for her plan to install a disco ball in the ceiling.
- Conversed: Hannah's cynical friend Janet asks if part of her "routine" involves dressing up like a clown to entertain the kiddies.
- Implied: Hannah wears really loud colors for someone who works at a library.
- Deconstructed: Just because Hannah is lively and fun doesn't mean everyone likes her; the library financiers, incensed because she doesn't fit the "traditional" model of what a librarian should be, vow to withhold funding from the library until she is sacked.
- Reconstructed: Hannah finds newer financiers who appreciate her stewardship of the Gray Town Library, but also tones it down a little as a peace offering to the more conservative constituents.
