- Inverted: Alice and Bob decide on an Overly Long Name the day they discover Alice is pregnant.
- Subverted: After not discussing names on screen for all nine months, Alice and Bob reveal that they picked "Clara" for a name months ago.
- Double Subverted:
- Alice later admits she thought up the name on the spot.
- The baby turns out to be the opposite sex from what they were expecting.
- Parodied: Parents are forbidden of naming their child before it's born.
- Zig Zagged: Alice and her husband have a name picked out, but the baby turns out to be a boy. They decide to go the Dead Guy Junior route, but later realize the name doesn't fit. The decide to change the baby's name to something else, but argue for several weeks about a name before reaching an agreement.
- Averted: Alice and Bob agree on a name several months before their baby is born.
- Enforced: The directors thought it would be more heartwarming if Bob and Alice were seen picking a name for their daughter while gazing lovingly at her.
- Lampshaded: "While you were pregnant did you ever stop for a single second to consider what you'd name the baby?"
