Basic Trope: An item that has no bearing on gameplay, but is still included.
- Straight: Bob, a Kleptomaniac Hero, is at one point able to collect underwear in the RPG Alice and Bob; they have no effect on gameplay.
- Exaggerated: There are several joke items.
- OR, the item actively detriments the player character.
- Downplayed: Scrappy Weapon or Useless Useful Spell.
- Justified:
- It's an item that would have no reasonable use in battle.
- The underwear is meant for a scripted event where Alice changes clothes, but the programmer forgot to mark the chest holding said underwear as unopenable by Bob.
- Inverted: The item is Purposely Overpowered.
- Subverted: It seems like the item is useless at first, but, if utilized correctly, can one-shot enemies...
- Double Subverted: ...except that said enemies are only in during the Noob Cave.
- Parodied: The item is something you'd think would be useful in battle, but still can't be used for whatever reason.
- Zig-Zagged: The item is useful at certain points, but not others.
- Averted: Every item in the game has some use.
- Every item that has no gameplay function is clearly delineated as a Cosmetic Award.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: "You found underwear! Not that it would be useful in battle..."
