Basic Trope: An innocent character is seemingly unaware of bad things and people.
- Straight: Upon seeing a hooded man trying to break into a car with a crowbar, Tam passes by without a second glance after wishing him a good day.
- Exaggerated: Tam ignores the lumpy, pointy object in back of the man's jeans and thin trail of blood seeping out of the car's trunk as she walks away.
- Downplayed: Tam doesn't believe the man right away, since she's skeptical about his explanation. A winning smile is enough to convince her, though.
- Justified: Tam has no reason to disbelieve the man's story about "losing his keys in the storm drain", and her mother taught her not to pry further into other people's business.
- Inverted: Tam, figuring the guy is up to no good, calls the man's bluff by offering to use her roadside assistance membership to get the door unstuck. He balks, giving her enough time to call the police before he flees the scene.
- Subverted: After her encounter with the man, the strangeness of what he was attempting and the holes in his story lead Tam to the conclusion that he was trying to break into that car...
- Parodied: ...about five minutes too late to stop him.
- Zig Zagged: Tam's naive outlook is only due to lack of experience. Eventually, after a few instances of heartbreak, she develops a not necessarily happier, but more well-rounded view of things. Of course, even this isn't the whole picture, as she still retains a few components of her previous optimism.
- Averted: Tam only takes her leave after she's made sure the man's story is on the level.
- Enforced: Tam turns a blind eye to bad things because she can't function in the real world otherwise.
- Lampshaded: Tam's older brother chews her out for not stopping the man: "What Were You Thinking? That he would use a crowbar on his own vehicle just to get into it?"
- Invoked: Tam's parents were rather sheltering.
- Exploited: People like Tam a lot, chiefly because she's gullible.
- Defied: Tam knows exactly what the man's doing, and threatens to call the police if he doesn't stop.
- Discussed: People often wonder how Tam can be so unaware all the time.
- Conversed: Tam's brother frequently tries to talk sense into her.
- Implied: Tam doesn't see that many things wrong with life.
- Deconstructed: Tam's naivete doesn't stop the carjacker from finding her a threat. Thinking she's toying with him, he turns his crowbar on her, and like that she becomes another crime statistic.
- Reconstructed: Despite her naivete, Tam's worldview has kept her going far past the point where a more cynical person would have given up. Ignorance is bliss, after all.
- Tam's cynicism doesn't make her life any easier, and in fact causes problems when she calls the police on a man for trying to get into his own car.
