Playing With / Incongruously-Dressed Zombie

Go To

Basic Trope: A zombie stands out because of its unusual clothing (or lack thereof).

  • Straight: A horde of zombies passes by, most in torn everyday apparel, but one is a rock star.
  • Exaggerated: A horde of zombies passes by, composing in its entirety of zombified cosplayers from a nearby convention.
  • Downplayed: A horde of zombies passes by, and one of them has on a very loud bandanna.
  • Justified: The zombie was a type of human who had a distinctive outfit and would have been likely to be caught before they could change out of it (e.g. a firefighter, a police officer, a doctor, etc).
  • Inverted:
    • A horde of zombies passes by, all dressed in bizarre outfits... so a single zombie who's just wearing a non-descript t-shirt and jeans stands out.
    • Alternatively, a group of survivors wear distinct outfits and they fight against the reanimated while wearing those outfits.
  • Subverted: That one zombie rock star is actually a local Celebrity Survivor that managed to avoid any danger by pretending to be a zombie.
  • Double Subverted: But later the rock star turns to be a real zombie as well.
  • Parodied: A group of Zombies go to a costume shop and each of them buys a different costume.
  • Zig-Zagged: A zombie horde passes by, but one of them is a rock star. Then the guy's fans and roadies manage to break through the barricade and join the throng, making it about half unusual. The unusualness increases over time, so that after a while, a non-descript zombie stands out.
  • Averted: None of the zombies look different from each other.
  • Enforced: The author didn't write the zombies as looking unusual, but the director liked some of the unusual outfits the extras brought in and insisted that they use them.
  • Lampshaded:
Bob: A zombie rock star...now that's a sight you don't see every day.
  • Invoked: A Zombie Advocate dresses zombies up in different types of clothing.
  • Exploited: One of the Elite Mooks has unusual clothing (e.g., a zombie in riot gear), so the spotters and shooters keep an especially sharp eye out for that kind of clothing.
  • Defied: The zombies realize their outfits are ridiculous and decide to change into ones that blend in with what other zombies are wearing.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "I thought I'd be scared of these zombies, but it's hard to take them seriously when they're dressed in such goofy outfits." "I don't know, I think they're kinda cool... in a silly way."
  • Implied: Bob and Alice come in from a mission with a Thousand-Yard Stare. When Charlie asks them what happened, Alice answers, "Someone chose the wrong day to have a birthday party."
  • Played For Laughs: The zombies wear silly outfits.
  • Played For Drama: A number of the zombies are dressed in pajamas, implying that they woke up to zombies trying to attack them and didn't have time to escape.
  • Played For Horror: Quite a number of the zombies are dressed like police in riot gear, implying a massive breakdown of any counterattack force and making it difficult for the survivors to rekill them.

And over there you can see an Incongruously-Dressed Zombie in prom clothes!
