Basic Trope: A character transforming into a large and/or muscular beast in a state of rage.
- Straight: When angry, Alice grows in size, especially muscle mass, and is far stronger physically.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice has a hair-trigger temper, going from scrawny to an unstoppable titan on the slightest provocation.
- Alice doesn't just turn into a monster when she's angry, but when she feels any strong emotion.
- One-Winged Angel
- Downplayed:
- Alice is physically stronger when enraged, but her muscle mass remains consistent.
- Only one part of Alice changes into her alternative form when angry; she can transform into her alternative form at will.
- Justified:
- Alice is an undertrained superhero, and can only activate her powers under extreme emotions.
- Alice has a sleeper build; Whenever she's relaxed, she doesn't look all that big, but whenever she has an adrenaline rush, that's when the muscles and veins start popping out.
- Inverted:
- Alice is far stronger physically while calm.
- Upon entering rage state, Alice becomes a total brainiac.
- Alice is much stronger when angry. However, she is also tiny.
- Subverted: Alice begins to grow muscles when she hits her boiling point, but calms back down mid-tranformation.
- Double Subverted: ...She is then set off again, and goes berserk.
- Parodied:
- Alice goes on an unstoppable rampage over the pronunciation of "GIF," or similarly trivial matters.
- Instead of turning into a giant rampaging monster whenever she's angry, Alice turns into a cute, mostly harmless rabbit.
- Zig Zagged: Alice has various superpowers tied to her rage, defaulting to a bruiser, but mixing it up depending on the circumstances.
- Averted:
- Alice has no shapeshifting abilities.
- Alice never reaches excess levels of anger.
- Alice can shapeshift, but its use has no correlation to her emotions.
- Enforced:
- Alice is added as a foil to Bob, who is cool and calculated.
- The writers wanted to include a character that demonstrates why you Beware the Nice Ones, and what better to have a fairly mild-mannered person that can turn into a giant monster when angered badly enough?
- Lampshaded: "Yeah, I'm a Hulk ripoff. Take it or leave it."
- Invoked: Alice's colleagues purposefully anger her so she can fight at her strongest.
- Exploited: Alice's nemesis traps her in a fragile building, so if she enters her rage state, it will collapse on her.
- Defied: Alice forces herself to stay calm to avoid setting off the transformation.
- Discussed: "Whatever you do, don't let Alice get too angry. It will be ugly."
- Conversed: "Man, if I had those powers, I'd sure hope to get some magic pants too."
- Implied:
- Alice is aggravated in one scene, then we cut to her vicinity destroyed in a rage.
- Alice is never seen transforming, but Mz. Muscle looks similar to her.
- Deconstructed: Alice, unable to control herself in a rage, is more exploitable, and often causes wanton damage to allies and bystanders.
- Reconstructed: Angry at this turn of events, Alice transforms again, finishing off the enemy for good.
- Played For Laughs: Alice gets super into her training, accidentally triggering a transformation and launching a punching bag across the room.
- Played For Drama:
- Alice struggles with anger management, but needs to keep it under control so she doesn't hurt anyone unwittingly.
- Alice is the city's hero, but is too emotionally exhausted to be of assistance when the city is in danger.
- Played for Horror: The normally mild-mannered Alice gets pushed too far, triggering a transformation that will doom the onlookers. It's only a matter of when.
