Basic Trope: Tourette Syndrome is portrayed as a condition that causes one to randomly use profanity.

  • Straight: Thomas is a character with Tourette's, and he is the Sir Swears-a-Lot of the cast.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Every single sentence out of Thomas's mouth is a Cluster F-Bomb.
    • Multiple characters have Tourette's, and they all swear uncontrollably.
    • Coprolalia even shows up in writing and typing.
    • Thomas doesn't even have any of the other symptoms of Tourette's other than coprolalia.
    • Thomas always shouts racial slurs and death threats when he speaks.
    • Thomas's tic is absurdly long sentence of profanity
  • Downplayed:
    • Thomas doesn't necessarily swear, but does use a lot of impolite words at inappropriate times.
    • Coprolalia is only something that happens to Thomas occasionally.
  • Justified: Thomas actually does have coprolalia.note
  • Inverted:
    • Tourette Syndrome is portrayed as something that prevents someone from swearing.
    • Thomas makes uncontrollable compliments.
  • Subverted: Thomas reveals that he was only pretending to have Tourette's to excuse his Sir Swears-a-Lot behavior.
  • Double Subverted: Thomas Becomes the Mask.
  • Parodied: All Thomas actually does is use "Gosh Darn It to Heck!"-type swears and nonsense words, but everyone acts like he's swearing his ass off.
  • Zig-Zagged: Whether or not Thomas appears to have coprolalia depends on the writer.
  • Averted:
    • Thomas has Tourette's, and instead has the more realistic/common tics, such as repeatedly shrugging or blinking.
    • Nobody has Tourette's.
    • Thomas has Tourette Syndrome, and also swears regularly, but the two are not portrayed as having any effect on each other and blurting offensive words is not one of Thomas' usual tics.
  • Enforced: A quick way to add some Vulgar Humor relating to swearing.
  • Lampshaded: "Shit, fuck, uh... I'm sorry, I just... Tend to swear a lot, y'know? It's this fucking condition that makes me constantly talk some real fucking nasty shit all the time."
  • Invoked: Neil, one of Thomas's friends, pretends to have Tourette Syndrome so he can get away with swearing.
  • Exploited: Betty, the Alpha Bitch, uses Thomas' uncontrollable swearing and mashes them together so it looks like he's insulting others.
  • Defied: Thomas decides to go to behavioral therapy to manage his coprolalia.
  • Discussed: "Sorry he started yelling swear words like that, he has a certain condition."
  • Conversed:
    • "Every time I see a character with Tourette's, they're bound to start blurting out naughty words."
    • "Do they even have any idea how Tourette's works?"
  • Implied: Thomas swears a lot, and it's stated to be because of a mental condition, but no further information is given.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Thomas gets in trouble for swearing.
    • Thomas happens to have coprolalia, but his Tourette's is portrayed as more than just uncontrolled swearing; he has realistic tics alongside his occasional habit to randomly say swear words.
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs: Thomas's constant swearing is played for Vulgar Humor.
  • Played for Drama:
  • Played for Horror: Thomas accidentally summons a deathly demon from his uncontrollable swearing.
