Basic Trope: Ridiculously stupid game-show contestants.

  • Straight: The host asks Bob what the capital of America is. He guesses, "Antarctica."
  • Exaggerated:
    • Before the game even starts, Bob can't even answer what his name is.
    • Bob doesn't even realize he's on a game show to begin with.
    • Every contestant that ever appeared on the show has given stupid answers.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob gives an incorrect answer that still has some logic behind it.
    • Bob gets most questions correct, except for one he really botches.
  • Justified:
    • The questions are trivia about a subject Bob knows nothing about.
    • They ran out of smart contestants and had to pick the dumbest ones instead.
    • Bob is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Inverted: Bob is a certified genius and the questions are far too easy for him.
  • Role-Inverted: Bob knows all the answers, but the host has no idea how to run a game show.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob's answer turns out to be correct through some Insane Troll Logic.
    • Bob corrects himself before he gets the answer wrong.
    • Bob somehow gets the answer right through sheer dumb luck.
  • Double Subverted:
    • After getting an answer right, Bob immediately blows it on the next question.
    • Bob gets the answer right, but breaks some other rule that causes him to lose the game.
  • Parodied: A scripted game show exaggerates the typical stupidity of game show contestants for comedic value.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob sometimes has reasonable answers and sometimes has stupid answers.
  • Averted: Bob provides reasonable answers to the questions.
  • Enforced: The author didn't know the real answer to the questions, so he made up a dumb incorrect answer for Bob to say.
  • Lampshaded: The host remarks on how dumb all the contestants are on his shows.
  • Invoked:
  • Exploited:
    • The host prompts Bob to give stupid questions because the audience finds it funnier than when contestants do well.
    • The game show is called, "Dumbest People In America" and is drawing attention to the lack of intelligence in the nation.
  • Defied: Bob is The Ditz, but studied really hard before going on the game show so he knows all the answers.
  • Discussed: "Bob, you're the dumbest contestant I've ever seen on this game."
  • Conversed: "These contestants on Guess The Answer are dumber than a sack of bricks!"
  • Implied: We don't see the actual game show, but we see Bob leaving the studio much earlier than expected.
  • Deconstructed: Bob was too stupid to make any money off the show, but spent hundreds of dollars to get to the studio, leaving him with debilitating debt.
  • Reconstructed: Bob still becomes a minor celebrity because his answers were funny and people enjoyed watching him on the show.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob gives an answer that's so ridiculously incorrect, it's hilarious.
  • Played For Drama: Seeing Bob display such ignorance inspires a viewer to crusade for better public education.
  • Played For Horror: Bob is on a Deadly Game where he gets killed for answering a question wrong.
