Basic Trope: Four/five characters with one of the five temperaments.
- Straight: The Player Party in Tales of Troperia consists of choleric Clay, Sanguine Diane, phlegmatic Bob, and melancholic Alice.
- Exaggerated: Clay is The Berserker, Diane is The Pollyanna, Bob is a Mellow Fellow and Alice is a Nervous Wreck.
- Downplayed: The characters are quadruplets, and they have a mild disagreement over where to order out for lunch.
- Justified: The characters carry magical weapons that react to their personalities.
- Inverted: The characters all look very different, but they act like drones controlled by a single mind.
- Subverted:
- The initial party is a four-temperament ensemble, but in the very first Hopeless Boss Fight, they lose Bob, and become a Freudian Trio instead.
- The group meets Luke, who changes the dynamic.
- Double Subverted:
- The team gets a replacement member to fill the Phlegmatic slot later on.
- After the Hopeless Boss Fight, Luke shows his true colors as The Stoic and the group becomes a five-man version.
- Parodied: Before each major battle, the team introduces themselves, Super Sentai style.
- Zig Zagged: The team is constantly losing and replacing their fourth party member.
- Averted: At least one of the temperaments is left out.
- Enforced: Write Who You Know with these four temperaments.
- Lampshaded: "Dianne, Clay, Bob, and Alice have such different moods, I didn’t even know they hung out together."
- Invoked: Clay specifically chooses these people to balance each other out.
- Exploited: A Hero Academy or Adventure Guild that deliberately groups people into a Four-Temperament Ensemble in the hopes of producing well-balanced teams
