Basic Trope: Dying while confessing your final words to the one you truly love.
- Straight: Bob is fatally injured and as he lies dying, he tells Alice he loves her.
- Exaggerated: Bob spends several days dying while telling Alice that he loves her every way he can think of.
- Downplayed: Bob is severely injured and while he might make it, it's not certain. He tells Alice he loves her.
- Justified: Bob would've been killed if his love for Alice was made known, but since he's already at death's door he decides "What the hell" and tells her he loves her.
- Inverted:
- The first thing Bob does when he finds out he's going to live is to declare his love to Alice.
- Bob is fatally injured and as he dies, he tells Alice he hates her.
- Bob tells a dying Alice that he loves her.
- Subverted:
- Bob says he wants to tell Alice something very important before he dies...he wants her to take care of the other people he's left behind.
- Not-So-Final Confession
- Double Subverted: Then Bob adds that he loves her.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob possesses Resurrective Immortality and has died several times. Sometimes he tells his love interests he loves them just before death, other times he doesn't. It depends on the strength of the relationship.
- Averted: No one is ever in danger of dying.
- Enforced: The executives are shooting for Oscar Bait and the tragedy of having Bob tell Alice he loves her when there is no more time left will jerk at the audience's tear ducts.
- Lampshaded: Charlie thoughts: "It took so long, but Bob finally confessed his love, however he does that while he is whitering away. "
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: Emperor Evulz notices Bob's declaration, and during the final battle he directly triggers Alice's Heroic BSoD by reminding her of Bob.
- Defied:
- Bob tries to tell Alice he loves her as he lies dying, but she shushes him.
- Bob considers telling Alice he loves her, but decides not to so he won't burden her with any more sadness and guilt.
- Discussed: "I'd better tell Alice how I feel now, otherwise I'd probably do so when it's too late for me"
- Conversed: "I heard Bob finally confessed to Alice about how he felt. Too bad it was with his final words"
- Implied: Bob, who obviously had a crush on Alice, whispers something to her before he dies.
- Deconstructed: All those words did is make Alice feel guilty for letting him get to such an injured state, as he made her so much happier. And as a result she becomes very, very overprotective of her friends.
