Basic Trope: Mere contact with an enemy does damage to the player character.
- Straight: Bob, the player character, takes damage whenever he makes contact with a slime.
- Exaggerated:
- Contact with a slime results in a One-Hit Kill.
- Due to Hitbox Dissonance, Bob can take damage just from getting too close to the slime even if their sprites make no contact.
- Downplayed:
- Bob only takes damage if the contact lasts longer than two seconds.
- Due to Hitbox Dissonance, Bob's sprite and the enemy's sprite can safely overlap as long as their hitboxes don't make contact.
- Bob takes Scratch Damage when he runs into a slime.
- Justified:
- Slimes' bodies are made of a substance that's toxic to humans.
- Bob ran too fast when he collided.
- Inverted:
- Enemies take damage from contact with Bob.
- Bob recovers health when making contact with a slime.
- Subverted: Spike balls show up as enemies, but when Bob walks into one, he takes no damage.
- Double Subverted: The game was lagging, and the damage is dealt a few seconds later.
- Parodied: An enemy simply walks up to Bob and taps his shoulder. Bob explodes.
- Zig-Zagged: The game has inconsistent rules as to when contact damage applies and when it doesn't.
- Averted:
- Nothing happens from mere contact between Bob and enemies as long as neither is using an attack.
- Due to the way the game is designed, contact between Bob and the enemies is impossible; they can only hit each other with projectiles.
- Enforced: The developers couldn't give an attack animation to the slimes, so they just settled for making them always do damage on contact.
- Lampshaded: "How do you do that? You aren't attacking!"
- Invoked: An enemy wizard casts a damaging aura around the other enemies.
- Exploited: After getting hit by a slime, Bob uses the resulting invincible frames to walk across Spikes of Doom.
- Defied: Bob uses a potion that temporarily makes him ghostly, allowing him to walk through enemies without taking damage.
- Discussed: "Keep your distance from slimes, Bob, their bodies are toxic and will harm you on contact".

- Implied: ???

- Reconstructed: Bob uses an Invincibility Power-Up
