Basic Trope: Two characters who were sleeping together find themselves clinging to each other when they wake up.

  • Straight: Alice and Ellie have to share a bed, and wake up to find one or both of them are clinging to each other.
  • Exaggerated: Alice and Ellie have to share a bed, and wake up with their hands over private parts, such as Thanks for the Mammary, possibly under their clothes.
  • Downplayed: Alice and Ellie have to share a bed, and wake up to find one has lightly draped an arm over the other.
  • Justified: Alice and Ellie are both used to sleeping with a plush in their arms, and the other was the closest equivalent they had.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice and Ellie have to share a bed, and one of them warns the other they tend to cling to things in their sleep. They wake up and nothing has happened.
    • Alice and Ellie have to share a bed, and one of them warns the other they tend to cling to things in their sleep. Neither can then sleep.
  • Invoked:
    • Ellie climbs into Alice’s bed while she’s already asleep, and clings to her.
    • Alice knows Ellie, who she’s crushing on, has a tendency to cling to things in her sleep, and joins her in bed hoping this will happen.
  • Discussed: "You know I cling to things in my sleep! It isn't my fault!"
  • Defied: Alice, who Hates Being Touched, makes damned sure that nobody else (especially Ellie) can get to her when she is sleeping (she locks herself in the bathroom, sleeps inside the closet, gets out of the room and sleeps outdoors, etc.), booby-traps herself so anybody who touches her in her sleep will regret it, or sets a spy camera and tells Ellie that if it records Ellie crawling up to her in her sleep, she will call the police and have her arrested for sexual harassment.
  • Inverted: Alice will cling to Ellie all the time except when they're asleep.
  • Played For Drama:
    • Alice has just been through a traumatizing ordeal, and she clings to Ellie as she sleeps to feel safe and secure again.
    • This kind of behavior leads to Alice becoming Ellie’s Closet Key.
    • Alice does not likes this kind of behavior and considers it sexual harassment, especially after the third or fourth time she told Ellie "no". The possible eventual moment she allows Ellie to sleep with her is treated as a very serious shift of her personality.
