Basic Trope: A name is changed in a foreign dub to avoid Accidental Innuendo.

  • Straight: In the original English version of Troper Adventures, there's a character named Merida. Her name is changed to Maria in the Spanish dub, because her original name sounds like "mierda", the Spanish word for "shit".
  • Exaggerated: Troper Adventures somehow has the luck of every character's name being something that would sound obscene or otherwise unfortunate in another language, so at least one character's name has to be changed in every foreign dub.
  • Downplayed: The original name wouldn't sound outright inappropriate, but might still count as Unfortunate Names in another language - for instance, the character Trista's name is changed to "Trisha" in the Spanish dub, because her original name sounds like "triste" (sad).
  • Justified: Merida changed her name to Maria in the Spanish dub.
  • Inverted: A character's name is clean in the original version, but for some reason they're given a name with a dirty meaning in that language in the foreign dub.
  • Subverted: In the Spanish dub, characters refer to Merida as "Maria" at first, until she says "Why are you calling me that? My name is Merida!"
  • Double Subverted:
    • She was wrong.
    • But then she learns that her name can sound like the Spanish word for "shit", and decides to go along with the new name.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Due to an Inconsistent Dub, the character is referred to as Merida or Maria on several occasions.
    • The original language has multiple characters with names that can sound inappropriate in the language this dub is in. Some are changed, and some aren't.
  • Averted:
    • There is no Dub Name Change.
    • If there is a changed dub name, it's not because the original name would sound offensive or inappropriate.
  • Enforced: The name sounded obscene in that language, and (especially if Troper Adventures is aimed at a younger or more general audience, or simply because the creators don't want viewers to think Heh Heh, You Said "X") that can't happen.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: In the Spanish dub, Merida changes her name to Maria because she realizes her original name could sound inappropriate.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "You know Merida in that show Troper Adventures? In the Spanish version, her name is Maria. I guess that's because her original name sounds like a swear word in Spanish."
