Basic Trope: Bulldogs are portrayed as vicious and mean.

  • Straight: Bully, a pet bulldog, is a vicious, bullying Angry Guard Dog.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Bully is just a Punch-Clock Villain who's only doing his job.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Bulldogs are portrayed as Big Friendly Dogs.
  • Subverted: Bully turns out to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Double Subverted: ...Not really, though.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Somes bulldogs are vicious, and somes they aren't.
  • Averted:
    • There aren't any bulldogs.
    • Bulldogs are not portrayed as vicious and mean.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Bully suffers from low blood sugar and only acts out when he's hungry. His owner Alice knows this and always feeds him well.
  • Defied: The Big Bad decided to avoid using bulldogs, knowing their "bully" traits have been obsolete.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Bully suffers from low blood sugar and only acts out when he's hungry. Tricky Bob Cat, who wants to eat Charlie Canary, offers the big dog many tasty high-caloric treats. Once Bully is safely fed and placated, and Granny Alice isn't looking, Bob then goes after the bird.
  • Played for Drama: Bully attacks two small dogs and mauls them to death. He is then is taken away to the pound and put to sleep. Their owner sues Bully's owner in court and wins.
  • Played for Horror: Bob J. Tropeson, the man whose dogs Bully killed, becomes an activist calling for a bulldog ban in the state of Tropiana. Citizens in Tropeville, Tropesburg, Tropesylvania, Trope Falls, and North Tropeton all vote "yes"; the bill passes by a wide margin. Many innocent bulldogs are soon taken away to the pound and gassed because of "Tropeson's Law".
