Playing With / Assuming the Audience's Age

Basic Trope: A work assumes how old the viewers are when Breaking the Fourth Wall in some form.

  • Straight: The Adventures of Alice and Bob, a show aimed at children, often has the hosts Alice and Bob refer to the audience as "kids" during moments of Fake Interactivity.
  • Exaggerated: The Adventures of Alice and Bob has No Fourth Wall, with Alice and Bob barely going a few minutes without talking to the kids in the audience.
  • Downplayed: The Adventures of Alice and Bob has an offhand mention that most of their viewers are probably on the younger side.
  • Justified: Alice and Bob are some form of Fourth Wall Observers who are aware that they're in a show aimed at kids.
  • Inverted: Alice and Bob mention that they absolutely have no idea how old their audience is.
  • Subverted: Alice and Bob say "Hey, kids!" while looking at the camera, before it's revealed that they were actually talking to some offscreen children.
  • Double Subverted: Then, they ask the kids, "Come over here, there are some kids watching our show!"
