Basic Trope: In order to be in charge, you have to kick ass.

- Downplayed: Jack, while not expected to kick ass all the time, is expected to be capable of it when required.
- Justified: It makes sense for the team to want its best fighter to lead it - he can generally handle anything that comes his way. Besides, his battle experience gives him an edge when it comes to commanding the troops.

- Jack, the strongest fighter, is the team's lowest-ranked member.
- After getting put in charge, Jack gets substantially stronger, possibly because the position itself grants power.
- Subverted: Jack acts like he's the leader of his team, but in reality, he's of equal rank with everyone else.
- Double Subverted: But when things get really hairy, they turn to him for leadership anyway.
- Parodied: There's actually a set number of people someone has to beat up/kill to become the leader. Jack has the highest body count right now.

- Jack, while a great fighter, has no leadership skill to speak of, so the team falls apart under his direction.
- Since Jack is the leader due to his superior fighting skills, he abuses his powers for his own petty amusement and satisfaction, causing resentment among his followers.
- After becoming the leader, Jack gets swamped with so much work trying to keep the organization together that he no longer has time for fieldwork, and the organization loses its best warrior.
- Because Jack seized the leadership of his country through military might, he set a dangerous precedent that the only thing one needs to do to become ruler is kick ass. Within months of his usurpation, Jack is fending off rebellions by upstart subordinates, former allies, and new players who use his original rebellion as a justification for theirs.
