Basic Trope: Men with pets are more attractive to women.

  • Straight: Bob takes his Big Friendly Dog to the park. Alice takes notice of him, and gives him her number.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: ???
  • Justified:
    • Alice thinks Bob's dog is cute...and that Bob isn't too bad-looking either.
    • Alice is looking for a long-term partner, who displays compassion or caregiving abilities. Owning a well-cared-for pet would likely demonstrate both.
  • Inverted: Alice ignores Bob, and talks instead to Charlie, who is alone.
  • Gender Inverted: Alice takes her Big Friendly Dog to the park. Bob takes notice of her, and gives her his number.
  • Subverted: Alice ignores Bob in favor of Charlie, who does not have a pet with him.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied:
    • Bob gets attention despite the fact that his dog is (literally) a toy.
    • Bob brings his dog to a singles' bar.
    • Alice falls in love with the dog...who runs off with her, leaving Bob confused and disgusted.
  • Zig Zagged: Some men at the park who have pets get attention, and some don't. By the same token, some men who don't have pets in tow get attention, and some don't.
  • Averted:
    • Bob doesn't take his dog to the park.
    • Bob doesn't have a dog (or any other pets).
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "You should bring your dog! Chicks dig guys with dogs!"
  • Invoked: Bob reads an article on how dogs can help men get female attention.
  • Exploited:
    • Alice uses the presence of a dog (and how Bob treats said dog) to determine if he's a nurturing type.
    • Bob uses the dog's reaction to Alice to gauge whether to continue talking to her.
    • Alternatively, Alice determines the breed of the dog Bob has.
  • Defied:
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
