Go To

Basic Trope: A being or group of beings exists that is above the traditional gods of the setting.

  • Straight: Primorus is above all the gods in the Karuno pantheon in status and power.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Primorus is as far above the Karuno gods as they are above mortals.
    • Primorus is literally God.
  • Downplayed: Primorus is more powerful than most of the Karuno gods but some can still wound or even kill him.
  • Justified:
    • Primorus is made to watch over the Karuno pantheon and other pantheons to ensure they don't abuse their power.
    • Primorus is a superweapon that all the gods poured their power into and has the power of all of them.
  • Inverted: Primorus is of a weaker species than the Karuno pantheon.
  • Subverted: Primorus is known by mortals as being of a higher rank than the Karuno pantheon but is actually of the same rank and power.
  • Double Subverted: Primorus can ascend to a higher state that is above the Karuno deities.
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged: Primorus is an Almighty Idiot - he is technically more powerful than anyone but doesn't use it with any intelligence.
  • Averted: The gods of the Karuno pantheon were born from Primorus's corpse. While he had the powers of all of them he was never alive when they were and thus he never existed above them despite being more powerful.
  • Implied: Someone mentions the name Primorus or something that sounds remotely like it. The Karuno gods within earshot start looking worried.
  • Logical Extreme: Primorus is not only above the traditional gods of the setting, but also has dominion over multiple universes and can shape reality itself.
  • Lampshaded: A character remarks, "So there's this Primorus guy who's supposedly above all the gods. Wonder if he's just a myth or actually exists."
  • Discussed: The characters engage in a philosophical debate about the nature of Primorus and its implications for the hierarchy of divine beings.
  • Conversed: The characters casually mention Primorus while discussing unrelated matters, revealing that it is a topic of common knowledge in their world.
  • Invoked: A group of ambitious mortals performs a ritual to summon Primorus, hoping to gain its favor and surpass the power of the Karuno gods.
  • Exploited: A cunning character discovers a loophole in Primorus's powers and uses it to manipulate or control the Karuno gods for their own benefit.
  • Played for Laughs: Primorus constantly forgets important deity responsibilities and ends up causing chaos and confusion among the Karuno pantheon.
  • Played for Drama: The arrival of Primorus triggers a power struggle and existential crisis among the Karuno gods, as they question their relevance and purpose.
  • Played for Horror: Primorus's mere presence is overwhelming and terrifying to the Karuno gods, as they realize their insignificance in the face of its immense power.
  • Unparodied: Despite initial expectations of Primorus being portrayed as a joke, it is ultimately revealed to be a serious and formidable force in the story.
  • Untwisted: The characters suspect that Primorus is merely a fabrication, but in the end, it is confirmed to be real and indeed exists above the Karuno gods.
  • Deconstructed: The existence of Primorus creates a power imbalance and breeds resentment among the Karuno gods, leading to conflicts and the questioning of divine authority.
  • Reconstructed: Despite the initial tensions caused by Primorus's presence, the Karuno gods learn to adapt and find new ways to coexist and cooperate with this higher being.
