Basic Trope: A character who always wins loses for the first time.

  • Straight: Sophia, the Born Lucky ace, loses for the first time against her Rival Rey.
  • Exaggerated: Not only does Sophia gets defeated by Rey, but she also loses two of her limbs, her right eye, and left ear, and her whole body is severely injured. All of her friends come to laugh at her defeat, as well.
  • Downplayed: Sophia loses to Rey by a hair in the tournaments and she still ranks in second place after him.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: The Born Unlucky Sophia wins for once.
  • Subverted: Sophia seems to have finally lost for once in her life... only for her to stand up and try again, and actually wins this time.
  • Double Subverted: ...Till Rey makes a surprise attack on her which renders her immobile and powerless, marking Sophia's first-ever defeat.
  • Parodied: Sophia loses for the first time and says, "So, is this what defeat tastes like?... Because I love it! I want more of it actually."
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Sophia never loses. Not even once.
    • Sophia's has a decent track record, that includes both winning and losing.
  • Enforced: "We need to make a shocking plot twist where Sophia loses for the first time to show how extremely powerful her opponent is."
  • Lampshaded: "Sophia, Miss I-always-win, loses for the very first time? Unbelievable!"
  • Invoked: Sophia deliberately loses so the other contestants can finally have a chance.
  • Exploited: Rey's friends use this opportunity to taunt Sophia and weaken her mental state after recovering from the initial shock her defeat brought on her and everyone.
  • Defied:
    • Sophia practices really hard and always does her absolute best and doesn't only rely on her luck to win, and thus she makes sure that nothing can make her lose.
    • Sophia creates a machine or a power that makes her always win, thus avoiding losing altogether.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: We never see the outcome of the fight with Rey, but Sophia is in uncharacteristic disbelief and Stunned Silence afterward.
  • Deconstructed: Sophia's one-time defeat crushes her spirits and makes her give up on everything, as she sees that there's no meaning in life if she doesn't win.
  • Reconstructed: Sophia learns from this defeat that she mustn't rely on sheer luck too much, to be less arrogant, and to put on more effort next time. She sees this experience as a lesson refusing to let this one defeat define her entire life or hold her back.
  • Played For Laughs:
  • Played For Drama: Sophia is treated as a failure by her Perfectionist parents for only losing once. Her parents, then, force her to undergo inhumane Training from Hell so she can become undefeated.
  • Played For Horror: That one defeat in Sophia's record would be a lot easier to shoulder if it hadn't been against that crazy member of the league who murdered all of her family and friends just to make sure she would always remember her loss.
