For a story that started out as a simple, light-hearted adventure involving saving Princess Peach from Bowser, it slowly gets darker to the point of becoming a horror fest. Here is the nightmare fuel from Super RWBY 3D Land:

  • Ghirahim brutally defeats Ruby despite how much stronger she is. As one of Dry Bowser's first followers, he can be quite deadly when serious.
  • The implications in Chapter 2 are that Peach was kidnapped in order to lure Ruby out so that Grimm Ruby can kill her.
  • The fact that the Mushroom Kingdom enemies are now Grimm and are now far deadlier and more violent, enough to unnerve the heroes, implies that Grimm Ruby wants everyone, not just Ruby, dead.
  • World 2-2 gets ugly real fast when the Grimm start coming out of the poison water to try and kill everyone. Just when they think they've escaped, they're stopped abruptly by a GRIMM REDEAD.
  • Kazuya decides to investigate where the Grimm are coming from. Given how dangerous he is, he will bring hell to the heroes should they be unfortunate to encounter him.
    • In the same chapter, it appears the Grimm are starting to invade other areas, meaning more terror.
  • In World 3-2, a Grimm version of Glooper Blooper appears. This version was a hell of a lot stronger than the original. Its tentacles not only regenerate fast, but can grow armor, and easily breaks out of petrifaction after Ruby used her Silver Eyes on it. It almost killed her by choking and drowning her at the same time. Luckily, Ruby was saved before it could succeed.
  • World 3-3 was transformed into an acidic version thanks to Dimentio and Acidic Bubble Man. It was strong enough to harm even a Ghost like Summer, and break through Rosie's shields.
  • Ruby's reaction to learning about Grimm Ruby's return was enough to scare her.
  • It's confirmed in Chapter 8 that Grimm Bowser was Peach's kidnapper, leading to an Oh, Crap! moment from Chiaki.
  • In World 5-Castle, instead of encountering a boss, the group finds the whole castle decimated and almost devoid of life. Upon entering the cliffside level, turns out it was none other than Kazuya Mishima. The boss fight that follows begins like a massacre as Kazuya proceeds to effortlessly defeat the cast. He also proved that he can use the power-ups as well. Even with Byleth's awakening and Laxus going up, he was still able to fend them off. Even the timely arrival of Akuma didn't help plus the 1-up. Luckily, he chooses to leave after Ken, Ryuji, and Master Hand show up and he refuses a Smash invite.
  • By the time the heroes battle Mercury again in world 6, Dimentio has almost completely turned him into a robot, leaving him completely emotionless.
  • In Chapter 13, Luigi and Chiaki come across a Grimm version of the Mushroom Kingdom. As if that wasn't creepy enough, once they arrive, the Warp Pipe seals behind them, and Luigi's pokeballs are sealed shut by Grimm tentacles, hinting that the two of them are in serious danger.
    • In the same chapter the dreaded Devastator Grimm awakens and shows just how dangerous this ancient Grimm truly is. Not only was it smart enough to use strategies on the heroes, but it also had plenty of unique abilities to keep it ahead of them. It also managed to eat Oran and made Ruby go extremely feral than usual. Luckily Oran survived and dealt the final blow to this ancient Grimm once and for all.
  • In the very next chapter, Luigi and Chiaki come face to face with no other than Grimm Ruby herself, who, while disappointed that they aren't Ruby, has no problems trying to kill them as well.
  • After reaching Bowser's castle, Grimm Ruby shows up at last. She not only manages to defeat the heroes, but she also kidnaps Ruby and Dark Pit. What makes this fight terrifying is that is Grimm Ruby's first true win. Plus she is now immune to the Sliver Eyes and can counter Byleth's Divine Pulse. Now the heroes don't know where their two friends and loved ones were taken, plus the possibility Luigi and Chiaki may have been killed.
  • Chapter 18 reveals more of the Grimm world. Namely, it's a fusion of every past world the heroes have been to. In addition, there are also Grimm versions of the heroes running around as well.
  • Chapter 19. Where to begin?
    • The corrupted version of Isle Delfino? All of the water is replaced with lava. And it starts rising.
    • In order to save Chiaki, the heroes are forced to traverse a room covered in tripwires, where one wrong move will kill Chiaki. Ibuki winds up turning herself into a Human Shield trying to save her.
    • Ibuki outright dying to the recreation of the spears that killed Chiaki in canon. Granted, it's undone almost instantly, but still.
    • How does the chapter end? With Grimm Ruby getting ready to torture Ruby.
  • In Chapter 20, we see a corrupted version of Skyworld that mirrors how Skyworld looked like when the Chaos Kin took over Palutena's mind. Not only that but there were cannons and railguns that Grimm Palutena was all too happy to shoot at them.
    • The very next area is a corrupted version of Alola where the heroes had to get into an Ultra Wormhole at Poni Island. The problem? They were at Melemele, and they had to traverse through the Grimm ocean to get there. The other problem? A Grimm Lugia and Kyogre try to obliterate them.
      • As soon as they get to the Altar of the Moone, what's waiting for them? Grimm versions of Solgaleo, Lunala and Necrozma! Neo uses her semblance to trick the Grimm so they could escape.
    • World Grimm 2-3 shows that they are at the rim of Grumble Volcano, and who waits for them? Grimm Kazuya
  • In Chapter 21, they end up in a corrupted area of Shiver Mountain where, as soon as they leave Shiver City, they are hit with a blinding blizzard which isn't so bad until it starts affecting Weiss, Rosalina, SUMMER and her fellow ghosts.
    • After they go into some shelter to try and warm up, Chiaki and Ibuki recognize that they're in the Crystal Palace. Once they find the Grimmified Crystal King and backup arrives, they fight... however in the middle of the fight, the Grimmified Crystal King proceeds to lower the temperature in hopes to freeze them out.
    • In the final area, Dark Yang (now a Grimm) makes her return and knocks Yang down, and starts to drag her into a Grimm Pool, where she explains that she would send her to Ruby and make her watch her sister disappear into nothing to have her despair. Luckily, Yang wasn't having any of it as she catches her second wind and obliterates her in her Shin form.
  • In World Grimm 5-2, Ghirahim reveals to Summer what Grimm Ruby plans on doing to her daughter, namely torturing her to death before ripping her eyes out, much like Ruby did to her when they first battled.
  • World Grimm 5-3, when the group enters a dark cave, it strangely couldn't be lightened up and was oddly cold. But before they can go any further, everyone is kicked out by lasers. What emerges from the cave is the one and only Arch-Nemesis that caused Iris' Dark and Troubled Past, one of the Four Champions of Grimm, the dreaded Amon with the appropriate title The Devil Champion. Nothing anyone throws at it slows the Grimm down, with an Awaken Byleth and Shez powered up by the Sword of Destruction doing but cut off an arm. And how does he regenerate his lost arm? By EATING SEVERAL UNLUCKY GRIMM in order to heal. Ultimately, Palutena had no choice but to get everyone away from it through teleportation.
  • Grimm Summer brutally torturing and mentally breaking Summer over her actions and threatening to kill her family with very disturbing implications.
  • Grimm Ruby attempting to gorge out Ruby's eyes after failing to make her scream. Thankfully, she's stopped by a spear piercing her chest in a Cliffhanger.
  • Grimm Ruby throwing a Grimm liquid into Ruby's eyes that makes her see all her allies as Grimm Ruby, which gets to the point that she can't continue fighting and has to be send over to Skyworld to recover.
