Sonic the Hedgehog does contain its fair share of humor and heartwarming moments, but that doesn't mean there's one instance that can put you on the edge of your seat.

  • Though he's still very much Laughably Evil, the portrayal of Robotnik's depravity is rather disturbing. He is so obsessed with his machines and considers them far superior to humans, and treats all other humans in the film with a cold, emotionless regard, seeing other people merely as tools to be used and disposed of once they cease to be useful.
  • Robotnik taking on his true madman persona and form during The Stinger is pretty damn creepy in live action. Especially considering how unhinged he was before and now has no restraints. There are a few moments that especially stand out. Even if he did call him "Agent Stone" because he truly missed him, Robotnik throwing "Agent Stone" (actually just a rock with a carved face) around with a heaving, growling shout; as if he's venting pure, unbridled rage.
  • Some of the movie's soundtrack can get pretty creepy at times, especially with any scene featuring Dr. Robotnik. A Visit from the Doctor is probably one of the creepiest pieces of music in this film.
  • At the beginning of the film, Sonic and Longclaw are being chased by a vicious tribe of Echidnas who want to take Sonic away. Longclaw is then shot with an arrow and she ends up sending Sonic to Earth while she fends off the Echidna clan. We don't know if Longclaw survived or not, but the fact that this all happened when Sonic was a young child.
  • The Echidnas are also rather frightening in the film, having their faces covered with masks and only their red dreadlocks visible, and brandishing lethal weapons as they stealthily hunt Sonic in the jungle. It's not too inaccurate to describe them as small furry versions of the Predator... except there are a lot of them.
  • The close-up of the Death Glare on Dr. Eggman's goggles — complete with red lighting and a very Psychotic Smirk from the doctor himself — as he prepares to attack Sonic in their final battle.
