Nightmare Fuel / SKYND

Go To

This band turns Nightmare Fuel into an absolute artform, especially with their music videos:

  • The fact that all of their songs so far are based on absolute monsters from the pits of True Crime. And the one song that isn't is about the famous case of a young woman who died in one of the most mysteriously nightmarish scenarios ever...
  • "Elisa Lam" follows the titular woman, who the video seems to show having some kind of psychotic episode (which some have theorized in real life may have been what led to her death). Then we see Skynd manipulating her like a marionette, controlling her jerky moves in the most frighteningly grotesque ways.
  • "Gary Heidnik" shows the titular rapist and murderer doing his thing with a series of frozen tableau-style set-ups, featuring Heidnik and his victims at various points as he tortures, kills, and disposes of them. Even creepier? Skynd is there the entire time, taking photos of the action, hence the frozen nature of the scenes; they're snapshots of Heidnik's evil.
  • "Jim Jones" really ramps up the cult imagery, featuring the cultists draped in blood-red sheets, Skynd with a crown of burning candles, looking like a twisted version of the Virgin Mary, the sheets shifting to white as the cultists begin swaying back and forth in time to the music, the whole thing having the atmosphere of the world's creepiest rave, before showing various cultists drinking the poisoned Flavor-Aid and collapsing in silhouette, ending on shots of the spilled drink looking unmistakably like spilled blood.
  • "Columbine" breaks the usual trend in their videos, by focusing not on the killers, but rather, a student at Columbine instead. The killers are kept almost entirely out of focus and we never see their faces. All focus is on that one student (loosely inspired by survivor Bree Pasquale) instead, and the video treats the killers like a nigh-unseen force of brutal destruction. And it's legitimately terrifying.
  • Skynd herself is basically walking Nightmare Fuel incarnate, her various outfits and makeup making her appear to be a cross between an Elegant Gothic Lolita, a Dominatrix, and a Cenobite. Combine that with her effected vocals (when singing low), siren scream and obsession with death (both in her music and in real life), and your first reaction to run if you ever saw her would be completely understandable.
