Given that Pretending to Be People takes place in a Delta Green campaign, some horrific events are bound to follow.

As per wiki policy, this page contains unmarked spoilers for Season 1 of the podcast. Read at your own risk.

  • The show's first episode features the gory aftermath of a car accident.
  • The Residue is a featureless black ooze that is spreading over the town of Contention. Not only does it absorb whatever it touches, but we don't know what happens to those people. What's more, it's often invisible, with only the recently-traumatized, mentally-unstable, or intoxicated being able to see it regularly.
  • Marvin Glass. He's a Humanoid Abomination, immensely powerful, and utterly sadistic. Couple that with his tendency to provide jump scares with distorted shrieks, and he leaves an impression in the listener's mind.
  • On the topic of Marvin Glass, the fates of those who cross him (or are just involved with him) tend to be horrific.
    • There's The Juice Box, a Blood Sport where two combatants are locked in a plexiglass cage suspended above its audience. The contestants fight to the death, with the loser being crushed by the ceiling so that their blood can rain down for the audience to consume in some cannibalistic hybrid of MMA and Saw. Worse yet? Most of the the combatants are children.
    • On the topic of children, he tends to use cloned children for his experiments on the silver balls. There are tapes upon tapes upon tapes of children being ripped apart by the things.
    • Glass also has an interrogation room where people are suspended by a meat hook over a tank containing multiple Fish People. In the end, they're lowered into the water to be fed to colossal fish man.
    • Virtually everyone in Glass' employ is either utterly broken, a Blood Knight, or an unrepentant sadist. And this thing basically controls The City.
  • The trafficking of cloned children by The Learning Center is a horrific aspect of the world in general. These kids tend to be viewed by the myriad conspiracies less as people and more as a renewable supply of tools to be used for their various ends.
