Class of '09 likes to use Black Comedy to soften the dark themes and grim situations that the characters face. Which make it all the surprising when the routes goes into some pretty awful Realism-Induced Horror that not for the faint of heart and are not Played for Laughs.
- In general, the idea of a school being populated by sexual predators who are allowed to get away with preying on teenage girls is still pretty horrifying. It is usually Played for Laughs because of how hilariously incompetent these guys are. That is unless the player goes for the routes where Nicole humors one of these deviants, then they might turn out to be a Not-So-Harmless Villain.
- Considering how Laughably Evil he otherwise is despite his blatant unpleasantness, Coach Colby outright murdering Nicole and then screwing her corpse comes right out of nowhere. Even worse is that there is no build-up to the murder. If Nicole chooses to go to his house to do sexual favors for cash, it will just hard cut to Nicole's ending monologue as she recalls how the coach choked the life out of her. And this is one of the earliest endings you can get!
- While pedophilia is played for Black Comedy elsewhere in the game, the scenes with the Counselor are played disturbingly straight thanks to his voice actor's insincerely calm and soft-spoken delivery. Every first encounter with him has him seemingly doing his job, asking Nicole or whichever other student he's talking to about their issues...before then beginning to compliment their looks and offering to "help" them. It's uncomfortably close to how real life sexual predators operate.
- The route where Mr. White takes over the whole school with a ruthless white nationalist cult that eventually leads to the FBI being called in and possibly even one student being straight up murdered when his comrades find out that he would rather go on a date with a hot girl than egg a synagogue with them. All just because Nicole decided to pose for some pictures in exchange for a free meal...
- There are two other White Nationalist Routes that are just as horrific: Firstly, if Nicole gets to the same point where it's revealed that Mr. White had indoctrinated everyone into his outlandish cult, but chooses to record a video of Jeffrey, Crispin, and Braxton doing a chant, she proceeds to upload it to the Nation of Islam forums. It gets so bad that Minister Farrakhan orders a full scale arson assault on the entire school. You're then presented with the rather lovely image of the school being burnt down with unidentifiable corpses that now serves as the page's image. Sucks to be in the White Pride Party indeed.
- Secondly, if Nicole agrees that it's silly for white people to not be proud of their race, she, Jecka, Emily, Ari, and some unnamed, brown haired girl proceed to help build a chlorine bomb that can level an entire food court with Mr. White, who then sends it to a Puerto Rican rights bingo night. It's mentioned that Mr. White died in the explosion, which left the 5 girls to blame.
- There is the infamous School Shooter ending, where Nicole recounts her final moments of being gunned down by Jeffery as the player is given an image of a bloody hallway with the implication being that Jeffery killed most of the cast after he snapped from Nicole revealing his fetishes to the school.
- This ending gets referenced in the animated short, where Nicole and Jecka hear Jeffrey going after their fellow classmates in rage on how they treated him.
- The Suicide ending gives the player a melancholy monologue from Nicole which turns out to be her suicide note. The final thing the player will see in this route is the haunting image of Nicole's dangling body after she hanged herself with a noose.
