I Just Wasn't Made For These Times is a Soundtrack album by Brian Wilson. Released in 1995 in conjonction with the biographic movie of the same name. It is the first solo album by Brian seven years after his debut album (in-between, he recorded the Sweet Insanity which never got released) and the first album he released after Eugene Landy got his psychiatrist license revoked and left him.

Its tracklist mostly comprises of Beach Boys songs rerecorded by Brian and produced by Don Was (who was also the film's director and collaborated with Brian on the Paley Sessions). Even though it is named after the track from Pet Sounds, said track isn't covered.

I Just Wasn't Made For These Tropes:

  • Break Up Song: "Caroline, No".
  • Broken Record: The outro of "Melt Away" is simply the song title being repeated ad nauseam.
  • Face on the Cover
  • Important Haircut: "Caroline, No"
Where did your long hair go?
Where is the girl I used to know?
How could you lose that happy glow?
  • Lyrical Cold Open: "This Whole World" and "Love & Mercy".
  • Miniscule Rocking: "Meant For You" lasts only 50 seconds.
  • One-Woman Song: "Caroline, No".
  • One-Word Title: "Wonderful".
  • Pacifism: "Love & Mercy" is a peace anthem and has been played live during charity events.
I was lying in my room
And the news came on TV
A lotta people out there hurtin'
    And it really scares me
  • The Power of Love: "Melt Away"
Sometimes I close up to the world
You know I close up to you girl
But when I hear you talking
    I feel my heart unlocking
And my blues just melt away, melt away
  • Special Guest: Brian's daughters Carnie and Wendy are featured on the cover of "Do It Again".
  • Title Track: Subverted, the Pet Sounds song isn't covered on this album.
