Here's the warm and wonderful story of Barbie, one of the most famous and popular girls in the world. She's the celebrated teen-age fashion model doll by Mattel, with a tremendous elegant wardrobe that every girl would like to have. In fact, Barbie is a lot like every young girl... or what that young girl would like to be. And now, Barbie comes alive in this completely original musical-on-record, created just for Barbie and Barbie fans. It's the romantic story of Barbie and her boyfriend, Ken... their first date... the first formal dance... all the glorious excitement of first love. And now for you to hear... to sing-along... to dream-along... BARBIE SINGS.

Barbie Sings! (not to be confused with the similarly titled Barbie Sings! The Princess Movie Song Collection album from 2004) was a 1961 album based on the Barbie franchise. Released through Mattel, Inc. Toymakers, it was the first of several albums starring Barbie singing.

Featuring the musical talents of Charlotte Austin as Barbie and Bill Cunningham as Ken, the album focused on Barbie and Ken's romance. Barbie Sings! is a collection of three 7" records, containing six songs and the runtime altogether is a little under 20 minutes.

Barbie Sings! contains examples of:

  • Love at First Sight: Barbie fell for Ken as soon as she saw him. Likewise with Ken towards Barbie. As mentioned in "Nobody Taught Me":
Then one day I looked at you
And quick as a flash it happened
Though nobody taught me, I knew what to do
I fell in love like that with you
  • Meet Cute: Barbie and Ken met at a baseball game.
  • Official Couple: Barbie and Ken.
  • One True Love: Before she met Ken, Barbie had no interest in boys. Barbie and Ken have been a power couple for decades, bar a period where they broke up.
  • Repurposed Pop Song: Inverted with "Barbie". Ken repurposes the classic "Barbie, beautiful Barbie~" tune while he laments about Barbie.
  • Silly Love Songs: Every song is about Barbie and Ken's feelings for each other.
  • Tagline: Six terrific teen-age tunes sung by Barbie and Ken (and you can sing along, too!)
