Epic Seven has quite a large following in the online English-speaking communities like Reddit and YouTube, so it's just natural that a lot of jokes and phrases pop up or get used repeatedly within the fandom.
Please add entries in the following format if possible:
- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] Explanation Like this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- "Skeleton Bask"Explanation (Spoilers!) During the "Eulogy for a Saint" event, Diene rallied the armies of the world since Ras wasn't awake yet. In the final battle, Bask died fighting Dusk Walker skeletons. Turning him to a skeleton is the fandom's way of reminding that he's dead.
- "Ken Gear"Explanation A common reply when someone asks who can use their posted equipment. Ken is a versatile hero in terms of utility and playstyle, thus he can be built as an attacker, a tank, or a debuffer. Any gear, any substat can work on Ken. Good set but with awkward substats? It can be used on Ken.
- "F2P BTW"Explanation Also present in other gacha communities, this phrase is used by the free-to-play to brag when they receive some of the highest-rarity units (5★) from the gacha. From 2020 onwards, this is turning into a Discredited Meme because of its overuse, and the act/context of bragging about luck isn't funny anymore.
- "121 Club"Explanation With at least 121 Covenant summons, the player is guaranteed to get a featured hero from their banner. Those who are so unlucky that they have to rely on the game's safety net joke that they have joined the 121 Club.
- "Rate up is a lie!" Explanation A common meme in other gacha games. This is used to make fun of the occasional "Drop Rate Up" events for certain 5★ items. Since there's only one 5★ Hero from that banner, getting them sounds easy especially if you can reach 121 draws. The problem comes when you're that extremely unlucky. There's only one 5★ Hero on rate-up and you can't even get them? "Rate up is a lie!" In other opinions, "Rate up is a lie" for Artifacts because the lack of an Artifact safety net makes them rarer than limited-time Heroes.
- "Vildred's Basket"Explanation Alexa's Basket is one of the most recommended Artifacts for Arbiter Vildred, especially around that time when he got nerfed and the Artifact got buffed. Despite Alexa's Basket showing both Alexa and Iseria in its artwork, fans joked that the Basket is meant for A. Vildred instead.
- "15%/40%"Explanation A statement that sparked a rivalry between the Korean and Global playerbases, coming from a conference when a speaker explains that 15% of the total revenue came from the origin country Korea, while the global market gave 40% of the revenue. It was so controversial that the speakers apologized for saying the revenue split, turning this into a Discredited Meme.
- "Running Ras"/"Ras Marathon"Explanation When there are connection issues, a running animation of a chibi Ras plays until the game reconnects. When there are widespread server outages or issues, this comes up a lot.
- "Yuna Engine"Explanation Starting from a fandom joke about the devs explaining the "Yuna Engine" every time a conference is held, this has evolved into memes claiming that "Engine" is actually Yuna's surname.
- "Dizzy is an Epic Seven character.Explanation Make no mistake, Dizzy came from the Guilty Gear franchise and only arrived to E7 thanks to the Crossover event. But since she's too overpowered at her debut, she became a very popular pick in PVP, and has remained dominant for a long time against beginners. Fans use this phrase as a reminder of her popularity here. Some fan-artists even draw Dizzy along with the main E7 cast.
- In-game voiced lines tend to become memetic the more fans hear them when using the characters' abilities. The most common examples are the following:
- Charles - "Correct your posture!"
- Arbiter Vildred - "Descending Blade!", "Can you hear the approaching ruin?"
- Vildred - "Dancing Blade!"
- Martial Artist Ken - "I'll teach you... who's the BEST!"
- Violet - "Look at my sword, not my face!"
- Specter Tenebria - "Kiss my feet... I will step on you."
- Yuna - "It's me! Yuna!"
- Elena - "The chosen ones...blessings of the stars." note This is memed because the English voice acting for this line is an example of "good bad voice acting"
- "Playable Rahel When?"Explanaton "Playable X When?" is common in gacha fandoms who want a certain character to be Promoted to Playable. In the E7 fandom, with Rahel of the Dark is the most requested Spirit Altar character. This has seen a surge when the bosses received their updated artworks.
- "10-year plan, guys!"/"Don't worry, this game has a 10 year plan!"Explanation A sarcastic phrase pointing out that it's ambitious for the developers to promise 10 years worth of content when the game was still 1 year old. While some see this as a hopeful sign, the sarcasm is used by fans who remember the rough times that this game has, or nonfunctional contents left in the game such as Dagger Sicar reputation quests.
- "20-year plan"Explanation An even more exaggerated version.
- The E7 fandom also has lots of puns and wordplay, such as:
- "Haste and Furious"Explanation Referencing The Fast and the Furious. There's a character named Furious, while there's nobody named Fast, there is one called Haste.
- "Krayon"Explanation Putting Kayron's head on a crayon.
- "Ras Eclair"Explanation Ras's surname is Eclare, which is easily misinterpreted as the bread eclair.
- "E-Coli"Explanation There's a character named Coli, and her Assassin Coli counterpart gets called "A. Coli". There's a joke that if Coli would have been an Earth-elemental, this fan nickname would be used for "Earth Coli".
- "Arby's"Explanation Arbiter Vildred has the Fan Nickname of "Arby", but players would associate it with the fast food chain, Arby's.
- "Maple's Descending Blade"Explanation When the anime of Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. was released on 2020, E7 fans saw how Maple's Poison Dragon/Hydra looks similar to Arbiter Vildred's "Descending Blade". This spawned image or voice clip edits.
- "Arby dies when he is killed."Explanation A snowclone of the "People die when they are killed" meme. This is used to mock how Arbiter Vildred's Auto-Revive mechanic can now be countered by the Extinction debuff.
- "YOU CAN USE BEER TO CLEAN OIL STAINS OFF OF GLASS STOVES AND WALLS."Explanation Kikirat v2's advice, even if narmy, it's considered funny or memorable from his event.
- "Dagger Sicar When?"Explanation The Reputations list includes a placeholder for the Dagger Sicar group, but it's non-functional for several years. When the devs post future update notes, some players would ask when the Dagger Sicar quests would be added. Become a Discredited Meme when it's been confirmed in the 2nd anniversary that Dagger Sicar will be added in the near future.
- "Free 3 Molas!"Explanation MolaGora is such a rare item that players are mostly just hoarding them for their favorite heroes. When an Adventurer's Path quest rewards 3 Molas but later requires them to be used on Free Spirit Tieria, those who don't plan to use her would instead keep the 3 Molas for other Heroes. Then, in September of 2020, Free Spirit Tieria came with +15 Skill Enhance so as to make her more of a Crutch Character for newer players, and anyone who spent MolaGora on her would get the Molas back.
- "Haste Buff When!?"/"They forgot my boy Haste."Explanation For every rebalance patch announcement, it's always common to see players bringing up Haste as someone who desperately needs an upgrade of some kind to make him relevant once more.
- "Fate References"Explanation The artwork of Faithless Lidica's "Victorious Knight" outfit makes her carry a flag, along with wearing a Battle Ballgown. It's thought to be similar to how Jeanne d'Arc is depicted in the Fate franchise. It doesn't stop there though, players also comment that Faithless Lidica has Jeanne's flag, Nero's dress, and Luvia's haircut (among others) all in one outfit.
- Bazelgeuse PTSDExplanation Bazelgeuse was an enemy from the Monster Hunter series, infamous for performing surprise bombing runs on anyone and anything it pleases. When Bomb Model Kanna was revealed, people noted that her battle tactics, "explosive" personality and overall appearance were suspiciously similar to that of a humanoid Bazelgeuse. Cue the Mass "Oh, Crap!" from the Monster Hunter fans...
