One-Winged Michelangelo (Katayoku no Michelangelo) is a historical manga by Shamu Itou. It was serialized in Jump SQ from December 2021 to June 2023.

1488, Florence. 13-year-old Michelangelo Buonarroti is a student in Latin school with a bright future laid out for him as a government functionary. But that's not what he wants — he wants to be an artist! He pursues his training in secret, but can his True Companions help him break free from his father's plans for him?

Meanwhile, in Florence and beyond, there are people with pain and uncertainties in their hearts and souls, that can only be solved with Michelangelo's artistic genius!

Compare Cesare - Il Creatore che ha distrutto, which takes place at around the same time and involves a lot of the same historical figures, but it's as Seinen as OWM is Shōnen, and it is meticulously detailed.

Tropes Appearing In This Manga:

  • Artistic License – History: This is, essentially, a Shōnen school story with a Renaissance coat of paint, and a thin one at that.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Leonardo da Vinci and Cesare Borgia are both this.
    • Leonardo should be 48 in 1500 when vol. 4 takes place, he painted The Last Supper in vol. 3, and he's a well-known genius. In vol. 1, when he was in his mid-30's, he excitedly showed off his drawings of dissected corpses to strangers in a restaurant.
    • Cesare, 25, has just returned from conquering vast territories... and jumps off his horse in the middle of his triumphant return to Rome, just to Squee over Michelangelo.
  • Genki Boy: Leonardo and Cesare.
  • Historical Domain Character: About half of the cast.
  • One-Steve Limit: Lampshaded aversion — Leonardo comments on the similarity between Michelangelo's and Michelotto's names. Shame there isn't an Angelo around this time...
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Michelangelo can solve the difficulties of anyone's hearts with his drawings.
