Go To

One Piece Chapter 0 Strong World is a special chapter of the One Piece series, issued alongside chapter 565. It serves as a special tie-in to the then-upcoming One Piece Film: Strong World movie, while also as a prequel to the rest of a series as a whole. It was released on November 30, 2009.

In the time before the Great Pirate Era, the "Flying Pirate" Shiki offered Gold Roger a chance to help him with his plans, but Roger violently declined. After Roger's death and the beginning of the search for One Piece, Shiki was captured by the Navy and sentenced to Impel Down. After escaping, he chose a small island with unique animals as a base, planning to build up his forces until he could be ready to conquer the world in twenty years...

Chapter 0 has examples of the following tropes

  • Antagonist in Mourning: Shiki doesn't take well to Roger dying, lamenting Roger refusing his offer. He spends two years inside Impel Down, despite having the capability to easily break out and escape the Calm Belt. Which he does.
  • Call-Forward: After Roger is executed and Shiki escapes Impel Down, there are shots of characters making allusions to things they'll do or be involved in the main series.
  • The Cameo:
    • Robin, Franky and Brook get to make cameos, although since the rest of the Straw Hats and Vivi weren't born yet, their families cameo in their place.
    • A younger Merry is seen designing the Going Merry.
    • When Shiki goes to see Whitebeard, you can see Marshall D. Teach hanging around.
  • Connected All Along: Shiki doesn't just go to Whitebeard's ship after escaping Impel Down for a drink. As it turns out, Whitebeard and Shiki were once part of the legendary Rocks pirate crew, so they are not only both figures from the same era, but once sailed the same ship.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: Tons. Almost every bit character the Straw Hats will meet pop up.
  • Declining Promotion: Garp's first scene has him rejecting a promotion to admiral.
  • Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Shiki and Dr. Indigo have fuller hair than they will in the movie proper.
  • I Was Quite the Looker: At Roger's execution, Gecko Moria is shown to be much leaner than he will in the series proper.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: Shiki escaped Impel Down by cutting off his legs, which had Sea Prism Stone chains on. He would later replace them with his swords.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Shiki was heavily invested in his conflict with Roger; when he learned that Roger was "caught" by the Navy, he attacked Marineford just to have a chance at one final duel.
  • Prequel: Takes place 22-20 years before the main series.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Titi's cameo shows she looks strikingly similar to how her daughter looks in the present time.
  • Tempting Fate: At Enies Lobby, giant guards Oimo and Kaashi comment that pirates won't attack.
  • We Can Rule Together: Shiki gave this offer to Roger, but Roger refused. He also went to Whitebeard, and was also rejected.
  • Villain Episode: Most of the focus is on Shiki.
