->'''Deb:''' Well, is anyone else here? I'm trying to earn money for college.\\
'''Kip:''' Your mom goes to college.
-->-- ''Film/NapoleonDynamite''

[[DescribeTopicHere Your mom's so stupid, when she was asked to Describe Your Mom Here, she said she didn't know your mom.]]

In a war of VolleyingInsults, insulting the opponent's mother is a useful snappy comeback. These insults come in a variety of forms:

* The versatile "Yo' momma's an X!" (In the UK, substitute "yo' momma" with "yer mum", "yer maw" in Scotland, "your ma" in Ireland, and "ya mum!" in Australia).
* The closely related "So's your mom!"
* And the similarly-related "That's what your mom said!", turning the insult into a DoubleEntendre.
* Old knock-knock joke:
-->"Knock knock."\\
"Who's there?"\\
"Joe who?"\\
* Often used when playing [[VolleyingInsults The Dozens]]. The classic example begins "Yo' momma so fat, [''insert fat joke here'']."
* "Your mother wears army boots!" (or "combat boots"). The implication is that she must have got them by bartering sex with a soldier for clothes. This particular one, referring to women in poor villages who would put out in such a fashion, has become a ForgottenTrope that [[DontExplainTheJoke has to be explained]] to a modern listener. Especially since a woman who wears army boots these days is much more likely to be ''in'' the army. If this insult is ever used unironically now, the implication is probably that the insulter thinks the insultee's mother is a [[ButchLesbian lesbian]], in an inversion of RealWomenDontWearDresses.
* A SpearCounterpart is the classic "So's your old man!", which was popular in the early twentieth century but has fallen out of use nowadays.
* For characters in the correct age demographic, substitute "Your wife."
* If one feels the need to elaborate, there's this version from the '80s: "Your mom. Your dad. Your bald-headed grandma."
** Or [[Literature/DiaryOfAWimpyKid "Your MAMA! Your big fanny granny! Your slap-happy grandpappy!"]]
* For variation, "So was your dad when he was making you!"
* In Japan, belly buttons are considered an intimate body part. As a result, you'll often see someone insulting another by telling them, "Your mother has an outie!"

As always, Wiki/{{Wikipedia}} gives much [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternal_insult detail in the traditional deadpan presentation.]]

A "Your Mom" joke was found [[http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2092775/Tablet-crude-jokes-riddles-beer--dating-time-biblical-Exodus.html?ITO=1490 baked into a cuneiform tablet from 1,500 BC]], which means Your Mom really ''is'' OlderThanDirt (and also that she really gets around).

Be warned that ''seriously'' directing insults at someone's mother is generally not a good move, because EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas. Or if the character really ''does'' turn out to be the SonOfAWhore, then it might provoke [[BerserkButton more of a reaction]] [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge than you were]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown hoping for]].

When someone actually follows through on the insinuation, see IBangedYourMom. Compare IWillShowYouX, LameComeback, NoYou, ThatsWhatSheSaid.

!!These are the examples your mom gave us last night:

* The {{Nerdcore}} bumper on Creator/G4TV starring [=YTCracker=], in which he states, "Mess with me you'll feel the wrath of [[ImageBoards Anon]] and [[TheKhan Khan]] / We'll get that [[RuleThirtyFour Rule 34]] on Your Mom"
* Back-to-School 2014 ads for Kmart parody this trope, with a bunch of kids trading escalating Your Mom ''compliments'' given in a tone meant to sound like insults.
* One advertisement features a couple of teenagers getting picked up on the side of the road by an Amish man. One of them asks him what it's like to live without the internet. The man calmly responds "It's all right. I just get pictures of your mom through the mail."
* A variant is used in a commercial for "Chiclets" gum, with "[[EverybodyWasKungFuFighting your Sensei]]" instead of your mom:
-->'''Karateman 1:''' Yo sensei is so fat, he could sell shade!\\
'''Karateman 2:''' Your sensei is so dumb, he sits on the TV and watches the couch.
* [=AMP=] Energy ran a commercial in 2008, featuring NHL goalies Ryan Miller, then for the Buffalo Sabres and currently for the Vancouver Canucks, and Jean-Sebastien Aubin, then for the Los Angeles Kings and currently in the French hockey league, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nit2pfTKyM facing off in an exchange of such insults.]] Miller wins when he switches to Chinese (which dialect is not immediately clear).
* One commercial for Slim Jim's provides an example when two men are riding with an Amish man after their car breaks down.
-->'''Man''': I gotta ask, man. What's it like living without the internet?
-->'''Amish Man''': It's alright. I just get photos of your mom through the mail.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'':
** Goku, when attempting to get Uub (who was suffering from a massive dose of ring fright before his match with Goku) to fight by making him mad by insulting his family, says "Hey, yo mamma's so fat, cows moo at her!"
** The Japanese version has Gohan shout this at [[DumbMuscle Nappa]], similar to the Paper Mario example below (complete with the "How did he know about Mom's outie?" response).
* ''Anime/{{Canaan}}'' does this with Mino and Santana's mud-slinging match in the 5th episode, which eventually devolves into this sort of thing.
* Parodied, like most things, in an episode of ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'' where identical twins Hikaru and Kaoru both finish off a [[VolleyingInsults volley of insults]] with "Your momma wears too much make-up!"
* Played straight in the first episode of ''Manga/DesertPunk'' when Kanta insults his quarry's mother (the original Japanese uses the "outie" insult, while the English just calls her a dirty whore). Thing is, the quarry happens to HulkOut when he's mad. Then, much later, on Kosuna's first job after assuming the mantle of Desert Punk for herself, she faces the same guy...and (at least in the Japanese) [[BrickJoke insults his mother again]].

* One of ventriloquist Creator/JeffDunham's puppets, José Jalapeño [[XOnAStick on a Steek]] has so insulted another puppet, Peanut, this way that it has become something of a RunningGag. For example, this happens when Peanut insults José by calling him a "Mexican condiment":
-->'''José:''' [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything I do not use them.]]\\
'''Peanut:''' You don't?\\
'''José:''' And neither did your mother!
** Shortly thereafter, this happens:
--->'''Peanut:''' Your mother was a corn dog!\\
'''José:''' [[CatchPhrase On a steek!]]
** Another example: in the ChristmasSpecial, Jeff asks José what he wants for Christmas and Peanut butts in:
--->'''Peanut:''' I think he needs a bigger stick.\\
'''José:''' That's not what your mother said!
* On ''Occupation: Foole'', Creator/GeorgeCarlin talks about "playing the dozens":
--> Some places had rules when you were puttin' each other down: "No mothers, man! No mothers!" We didn't have that rule. We'd start right in with your mother....and work from there: "Hey, where'd ya go last night?" "I was out wit' your mother, man! Aha-hah-hah!"....That originated in black street culture as "the dozens." Or "cappin'" on each other, "signifyin'." [Low voice] "The dozens....playin' the dozens....Ya wanna play the dozens? Well, the dozens is a game. But the way I fuck ya mother is a goddamn shame!"

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* In the ''Film/{{Clerks}}'' comic:
-->"Yo, why are they fighting?"\\
"They're claiming first dibs."\\
"On what?"\\
"Your mom, of course."\\
"... He's lucky I just took three Percocets."
* Issue 611 of ''[[ComicBook/SpiderMan Amazing Spider-Man]]'' sees a LetsYouAndHimFight between Spider-Man and ComicBook/{{Deadpool}} degenerate into a [[http://www.comicvine.com/deadpool/4005-7606/forums/yo-mama-fight-534843/ gladiatorial battle of "Yo Momma" jokes]] (as in, they end up just standing in the middle of a basketball court firing zingers off at each other). After being pushed just too far by Spidey, Deadpool prepares to break out "Yo Mommageddon", a "Yo Momma" crack he's honed so perfectly that it causes people to cry themselves to death (although in Hebrew it only makes people bite their own tongues off, as Deadpool learnt when he sold it to Mossad). He's just about to break it out when his beeper goes off, revealing that he's [[PunchClockVillain done for the day]]. He then cheerfully offers to buy Spidey a beer. One of the kids who were watching the "fight" calls Deadpool out on it, claiming Deadpool was bluffing about the "Yo Mommageddon". Deadpool whispers HALF of the joke in the kid's ear, and he immediately starts crying. In case anyone's wondering what the blacked-out joke was: "Yo Mama's so old she gave {{Dracula}} a reach around."
* In ''ComicBook/UltimateSpiderMan'', Spidey is fighting crime in a half-completed, bargain-basement version of his normal costume (the original was destroyed, and he didn't have a handy replacement.) He breaks up a mugging, and one of the crooks asked where his real uniform was. Spidey retorts, "Your mom's washing it for me." While beating them up, he admits that jokes like that are usually beneath him, but he's not exactly on his A-game.
* ''[[ComicStrip/{{Dilbert}} Dogbert's Clues for the Clueless]]'', Dogbert explains that, while insulting somebody's mother is impolite, "fathers are fair game." He illustrates this by rattling off a bunch of "your father is so dumb" jokes.
* In ''ComicBook/ABCWarriors'', during the Volgan War, Ro-Jaws provoked Mek-Quake into attacking him (thus saving the other Warriors) with a string of "Your mother" jokes. Blackblood tries to persuade Mek-Quake that, since they're all robots, none of them ''have'' mothers. It doesn't work. The greatest moment has to be this exchange:
-->'''Mek-Quake:''' ''(chasing Ro-Jaws)'' I will do unspeakable things to you!\\
'''Ro-Jaws:''' ''(running away)'' Last night I did unspeakable things to your mother!
* In ''ComicBook/ScottPilgrim'', during Scott's fight with Matt Patel, Ramona's First Evil Ex-Boyfriend, Scott tries to rattle Matt by asking about the time Matt and Ramona dated.
-->'''Scott:''' C'mon, man, dish! Got any embarrassing stories?
-->'''Matt:''' Y-your mom is an embarrassing story!
** High School Flashback - The evil Benvi Tech boys kidnaps Kim P.
--> Scott goes to rescue her. Final Boss is Simon Lee.
-->'''Simon Lee:''' So, this is the best St. Joel can muster?
-->'''Scott:''' That's not what your mother said last night!
* The ''Half a Life'' arc of ''ComicBook/GothamCentral'' revolved around [[ComingOutStory the involuntary outing of Renee Montoya]], who has already had to deal with being a [[TwoferTokenMinority Hispanic woman]] in the predominantly white male Gotham City Police Department. When it is revealed that she is also gay a lot of the other GCPD detectives, who dislike her and the Major Crimes Unit as a whole because of their basic honesty in the [[BadCopIncompetentCop highly corrupt police force]], begin insulting her even more. Renee, however, has never been one to just take the abuse when other people decide to dish it out.
-->'''Detective Lowe:''' You're probably in a hurry to get home to your little lady or whatever you call her, huh? The night time is the right time for love and all that, right?\\
'''Detective Montoya:''' That's what your mother tells me. \\
'''Detecive Lowe:''' [[LameComeback ...Dyke.]]
* From the second issue of the ''VideoGame/KingdomOfLoathing'' comic book series:
-->'''A creepy clown''': You must be Jill! Your mother tried to bind me with entangling noodles, but through a hole in the plot, the noodles crushed her instead. Your mother screamed your name as she died!
-->'''Jill''': Yeah? Well, ''your'' mother screams ''my'' name every night!
* The "Your mother wears army boots!" happened once in ComicStrip/BeetleBailey where Beetle get's fed up with Sarge and tells him this. Sarge's response implies however that she really was in the army.
-->'''Sarge''': I didn't know he knew mom.
** (About) the same gag is used in Marvel What-The and Ambush Bug.
* In the 1986 DC Comics mini-series ''[[ComicBook/LegendsDC Legends]]'', Beast Boy makes fun of G. Gordon Godfrey speaking on the television against superheroes, saying "your father wears your mother's Army boots".
* The ringleader of a gang who picks on young Steve Rogers in a ''Comicbook/CaptainAmerica'' flashback says "Introduce me to yer ma, I'll keep her warm for ya!", prompting one of his sidekicks to remind him "Mas are off-limits. Street code."

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* ''ComicStrip/{{Garfield}}'' has several G-rated versions:
** When Garfield stands on the talking scale:
--->'''Scale:''' Let me put it this way... Have you ever considered a career as a river barge?\\
'''Garfield:''' Your mother was a blender!\\
'''Scale:''' That hurt.
** When he does his act on the fence, he tells his audience: "All of your mothers wear army boots!"
*** He said this to a dog once, who merely walked away thinking "He's lucky Mom was in the military."
** Jon tries to train Garfield to be an "attack cat", and makes a dummy from him to practice. When he orders "Attack!", Garfield tells the dummy: "Your mother wears combat boots!"
** When Garfield is a bad mood, he shouts to a bunch of dogs: "All your mothers wear flea collars!" which gets him beaten up.
** Garfield barks something to a chained dog, who gets really mad. Garfield explains that it meant "Your mother has fleas".
** [[http://www.garfield.com/comics/vault.html?yr=1985&addr=850424 Odie was chasing cars]] and Garfield tried to caution him against it because he could get clobbered. Realizing he said "clobbered", Garfield then told Odie a Buick said "unkind things" about Odie's mother.
** [[http://www.garfield.com/comics/vault.html?yr=1985&addr=850904 Garfield, as "The Caped Avenger", felt he could get into all sorts of troubles and]] be protected by his sidekick Odie (a.k.a. Slurps). When Garfield smacked a dog and said the dog's mother chased garbage trucks, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere Slurps resigned his "comission".]]
** Garfield playing the trope straight:
-->'''Garfield:''' Well, ''your'' mother is so fat that your family photo had to be taken by Voyager 2!
* In one of the rare occasions in ''ComicStrip/USAcres'' where Booker achieves some sort of victory against the worms, he looked into a hole, which Booker then plugged with a cork. Booker then yelled, calling the worm's mother a "garden hose". As Booker expected, the worm hit its head at the cork while trying to return to the surface to respond to the insult.
** In a later ''ComicStrip/USAcres'' story, a worm told Booker his mother swam after garbage scows. Booker reacted by trying to go after the worm, who then retreated itself into a hole where Booker got stuck. Then Orson, whom Booker affectionally calls "Mom", showed up wearing a swimsuit and telling Booker to hurry up because the garbage scow was coming down the creek. Booker groaned in frustration.
** Feeling bored, Wade told Cody his mother had fleas so Cody would chase him away.
** Orson wondered why Roy considered himself qualified to be the judge of an "ugly face contest". When Roy said he knew ugly when he saw it, Lanolin jokingly mentioned "he should". Roy then asked "what was that about my (Roy's) mother?"
** [[http://garfield.com/us-acres/1989-01-21 Roy, over a frozen lake, teasing a fish]]. "Hey, fish! Your mother wears waders!" Then a strong fish breaks through the ice and drags Roy's face into water. Roy ends the strip with a broken and frozen face.
* One ''ComicStrip/FoxTrot'' strip has Jason and Marcus trash-talking each other before a test with "your momma" lines. This strip led to the name of one of the compilation books, ''Your Momma Thinks Square Roots Are Vegetables''.
* Caesar from ''ComicStrip/TheBoondocks'' is a walking encyclopedia of this trope.
* ComicStrip/{{Curtis}} is always getting these from the strip's two bullies, Derek and "Onion".
* One ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' had Woodstock showing off his new MickeyMouse shoes to Snoopy. Snoopy told him that they were very nice, but wasn't he worried that other people would ask if his mother wore combat boots... then promptly asked him if his mother wore combat boots. Woodstock responded with a [[DopeSlap kick]].

* In ''FanFic/MyLittleMagesTheNightmaresReturn'', during Nightmare Moon's assault on Magiville.
-->'''Nightmare Moon''': Is this how thou treat all visiting royalty? With threats of violence thou cannot hope to fulfill? Or was thy mother too busy whoring herself to teach thee proper manners?
-->'''Rainbow Dash''': Congratulations. That was the worst yo mama joke I've ever heard.
* There's a ''Series/{{Glee}}'' fanfic in which Puck, in accordance with his canon persona, tries to get a rise out of Kurt by claiming to have had [[IBangedYourMom sex with his mother]]. Kurt leaves, visibly upset, and Puck finds out from Finn that Kurt's [[MyParentsAreDead mother is dead]]. [[DudeNotFunny Ouch]].
* Calvin does a lot of these in early episodes of ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheSeries''; Socrates and Hobbes get in on it a little as well.
* ''[[Fanfic/AFutureOfFriendshipAHistoryOfHate A Future of Friendship, A History of Hate]]'': In Episode 2, Spike does this to distract a bunch of shadow wraith possessed guards in order to allow Twilight a chance to sneak into the castle. They're mostly confused, but chase him anyway.
-->'''Spike''': Your mothers were a bunch of three-legged mule chasers! (''blows a raspberry'')

** Cui and Vegeta do this back and forth. Vegeta does it to Cui, who responds that his species reproduces asexually ("Gross. Out of my way.") Cui then does it to Vegeta in the same ep as the first example.
--->'''Vegeta:''' My mother's ''dead''.\\
'''Cui:''' I ''know''.
** Which is then chillingly referenced by Freeza during his fight with Vegeta:
--->'''Freeza:''' Well, Vegeta, time to send you crying home to mommy.\\
'''Vegeta:''' (''in extreme pain'') My... mother's... dead.\\
'''Freeza:''' ''I know.''
** It also happens in "Bardock the Father of Goku".
--->'''Bardock:''' We need to raise an army, and--\\
'''Random Saiyan:''' Your ''mom's'' an army!
** Cell manages to work one into his broadcast announcing the Cell Games.
--->'''Cell:''' And much like Vegeta's mother, I will accept ''all'' comers.\\
'''Vegeta:''' '''HOW DARE.'''[[note]]'''Krillin''': Why'd you take off your shirt?[[/note]]
* PlayedForLaughs in ''WebVideo/SailorMoonAbridged'':
-->'''Serena:''' Come on, Amy, let's go stalk him!\\
'''Amy:''' But I'm trying to study!\\
'''Serena:''' So's your '''mom'''!\\
'''Amy:''' Serena, that doesn't make any sense.\\
'''Serena:''' Shut up!
* ''WebVideo/YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries'':
-->'''Yami:''' I said you were cute. It's a compliment! Geez!\\
'''Yugi:''' (''angrily'') Your ''face'' is cute!\\
'''Yami:''' Yup.
** Also in Episode 47:
--->'''Kaiba:''' Hey, uh, question. Are you just going to paraphrase old movies and TV shows at us, or are you actually going to DO SOMETHING?\\
'''Noah:''' ...Your mother.
** And in Marik's Evil Council video #2:

'''Yami:''' And I activate your momma.\\
'''Kaiba:''' Then I activate... What!!?\\
'''Yami:''' You heard me, Kaiba. Your momma. I activated her.\\

'''Dawn:''' All right... Your mother's a Biology teacher in Cheshire!
** And by Music/OzzyOsbourne in a backmasked message in his song "Bloodbath in Hell," where he says "Your mother sells whelks in Hull." This is also a TakeThat against a lawsuit he had received for an UrbanLegendOfZelda regarding an allegedly backmasked message in his album ''Blizzard of Ozz''.
* Used to great extent in ''Film/TheMonsterSquad''.
* In ''Film/{{Chinatown}}'', Jake Gittes uses the wife variation to insult a cop:
-->'''Loach:''' What happened to your nose, Gittes? Somebody slammed a bedroom window on it?\\

-->'''Taylor:''' By the way, saw your wife last night, hell of a dancer, you must be very, very proud. I mean that guy she was with, I'm sure he's a close personal friend and all. But tell me, what was he doing wearing her panties on his head? (Batter Pops Up) Uh-oh, that's it, I don't think this one's got the distance.

-->'''Paine:''' How many men you got? \\
'''Barney:''' Just your mother!
* ''Film/YTuMamaTambien'': The movie's title ''is'' this trope (usually translated "And your mama too!") Unusually for this trope, the character who says it [[IBangedYourMom actually has had sex with the other's mother]].
* In ''Film/SuperTroopers'' one cop tests out a bulletproof cup and gets knocked down. When asked how he feels, he responds "Good enough to fuck your mother!"

'''Smokey:''' Man, where you get that from?\\
'''Craig:''' Yo' momma.

-->'''Detective Traxler:''' Well, how do I look?\\
'''Detective Vukovich:''' Like you've been dead for a week.\\
'''Detective Traxler:''' [[DeadpanSnarker Yo mama.]]
* In ''Film/TheWaterboy'', during a football game, Bobby Boucher wishes an opposing player good luck before the next play, but that player rudely replies "I'll be playing with your mama tonight", making Bobby ominously mutter "62", his jersey number. During the play, Bobby intercepts the ball, but idiotically gives it back to that player, who takes it for a touchdown to beat Bobby's team. Though Bobby [[CurbStompBattle roughhouses him]] anyway.
* In ''Film/TheDarkKnight'' ComicBook/TheJoker does one by insulting Gambol's grandma.
-->'''The Joker:''' If we don't deal with this now, soon (''shrug'') little Gambol here won't be able to get a nickel for his grandma.\\
* A variation from ''Film/MeanGirls'':
-->'''Student:''' Cool wig, Janice. What's it made of?\\
'''Janice:''' Your mother's chest hair!
* PlayedWith in ''Film/AnchormanTheLegendOfRonBurgundy'', where Wes Mantooth is taunted with the thought that one of the News 4 team would take his mother out to dinner... [[PokeThePoodle and not call the next day]].
* ''Film/AxEm'' features [[{{Padding}} a lengthy sequence consisting entirely of the characters telling each other yo' mamma jokes.]]
* ''Film/WhiteChicks'' had a full blown yo momma fight.
* In ''Film/RedHeat'', Ivan Danko translates one of Viktor Rostavili's lines as this in order to provoke Art Ridzik into lashing out.
-->'''Viktor Rostavili:''' Еби свою маму в задницу.[[labelnote:Latin transliteration]]Yebi svoyu mamu v zadnicu.[[/labelnote]][[labelnote:English translation]]Fuck your mother in the ass.[[/labelnote]]\\
'''Art Ridzik:''' What did he say?\\
'''Ivan Danko:''' He say, "[[GoshDangItToHeck Go and kiss your mother's behind.]]"
* Parodied in the first ''Film/ScaryMovie''. Brenda berates her brother Shorty, and he calls her mother stupid. She points out that he just insulted his own mother, as they're full siblings. Then he insults her father, and she doesn't mind because she never met the guy, and as he realizes, neither has he.
* ''Film/EndersGame'': Bean delivers an awesome zinger of this type at Bernard when asked how he got such good test scores.
-->'''Bernard:''' They probably cheated.\\
'''Bean:''' Your mom cheated; that's why you look like a plumber.
* In ''Film/RagingBull'', Joey [=LaMotta=] gets like this when he talks (presumably) to Sal on the phone, not aware that Jake [=LaMotta=] is on the phone, too:
-->'''Joey:''' You listening? Your mother sucks [[ClusterFBomb fucking, big, fucking elephant dicks!]] You got that?
* Taking a cue from its source material ''The Body'', listed below under Literature, this exchange in ''Film/StandByMe'':
-->'''Gordie:''' Shut up! \\
'''Teddy, Vern and Chris:''' I don't shut up, I grow up. And when I look at you I throw up! Aeoo! \\
'''Gordie:''' Then your mother comes round the corner and she licks it up. \\

* In ''Film/TheAdventuresOfPriscillaQueenOfTheDesert'', Tick says to Felicia, "Is it true when you were born the doctor turned around and slapped your mother?"
* In ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2014'', this is basically Leo's answer when Raph asks who put him in charge.
* ''Film/FearCity'': When Detective Wheeler interrogates Rossi, Rossi insults him by calling the police officer's mother a whore. He gets decked in the face for this.
* ''Film/LAConfidential'': During Bloody Christmas, one of the Mexican prisoners who was being beaten up by the cops insults both Dick Stensland's (in Spanish) and Bud White's mothers (in English). The latter was especially unwise since White, who was initially trying to break up the fight, instead decides to join in. White had to witness how his mother was beaten to death by his abusive father, making it an especially personal insult for him.
* ''Film/SosYourOldMan'' (1926) uses the SpearCounterpart mentioned in the introduction above. Creator/WCFields uses it sincerely when the RichBitch insults him and calls him uncouth. At the end of the movie, when his daughter tells him how happy she is, he uses the words literally.
* ''Film/MajorPayne'': "I heard your mama's so fat, she played pool with the planets."
* The TrashTalk from ''Film/WhiteMenCantJump'' is full of this: "Your momma so poor, I saw her kicking a can down the street. I asked her what she was doing, and she said, 'Moving!'".
* From ''Film/WildCats'', courtesy of the Central High School cheerleaders:
-->You ain't got no alibi
-->You ugly
-->How you think you got that way
-->Yo Mama
* ''Film/{{Viridiana}}'': One of the bums at the party asks the blind bum how he can scratch an itch if he can't see where it is. The blind bum says "Tell Zequiel that when I get an itch, I'll get his mother to scratch it for me."

* In ''Literature/TheEarTheEyeAndTheArm'', the main characters briefly live in a secluded community of traditionally-living tribespeople. During the period, two groups of boys out herding pass the time by beating each other up and [[ItMakesSenseInContext symbolically attacking their mothers' breasts.]]
* Wild Bill Wharton in ''Literature/TheGreenMile'' tries a "your wife" variety on a prison guard... who isn't married. He comes back that it was probably Wharton's sister he was thinkin' of.
* Creator/StephenKing's novella ''[[Literature/DifferentSeasons The Body]]'':
** There are several Your Mom insults, such as "Your mother blows dead rats!"
** Also, when Chris holds Ace at gunpoint:
--->'''Chris:''' Oh, why don't you go home and fuck your mother some more? I hear she loves the way you do it.\\
'''Ace:'''. I'll kill you for that. Nobody ranks my mother.\\
'''Chris:''' I heard your mother fucks for bucks. In fact, I heard she throws blowjobs for jukebox nickels. I heard -''(interrupted by thunder)''
** Note that earlier, when one boy says something critical about his friend's ''father'', this is considered a serious breach of etiquette, whereas taunts about mothers are understood to be kidding.
* Happens in Creator/ThomasPynchon's ''Against The Day'' when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria visits a black neighborhood in Chicago in the 1890s.
-->"Something about...your...wait...''deine Mutti'', as you would say, your...your mamma, she plays third base for the Chicago White Stockings, ''nicht wahr''? A quite unappealing woman, indeed she is so fat, that to get from her tits to her ass, one has to take the 'El'! Tried once to get into the Exposition, they say, no, no, lady, this is the World's Fair, not the World's Ugly!"\\
"Um, Your Royal Highness? If we could just have a word--"\\
"It is all right! I know how to talk to these people! I have studied their culture!"
* [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] by Butler in the first ''Literature/ArtemisFowl'' book, where he uses a mother insult to lure some dockworkers out.
* In the Franchise/StarTrekExpandedUniverse novel ''Literature/{{IQ}}'', the war between the Q Continuum and the M Continuum started when one of the M, after a discussion of why there ''needed'' to be a war which nobody could get worked up about, suddenly said "Your mother!" [[FridgeBrilliance Made even more hilarious]] by the fact that, since both the Q and the M are omnipotent, immortal beings, none of them actually ''had'' mothers!
* In Jessica Layne's ''Knight Moves'', a Middle Ages knight is challenged by stereotypical black Philadelphia gangsters to a "Yo Mama" contest.
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'':
** Harry uses it against Malfoy in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire'', after Malfoy insults Ron's mother. "You know your mother, Malfoy? That expression she's got, like she's got dung under her nose? Has she always looked like that, or was it just because you were with her?"
** He also pulls one on Seamus after Seamus calls Harry a [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment lying liar who tells lying lies that lie]].
** Harry does this again in a letter he writes to Sirius. In case any letter-thief gets hold of the letter, he does his best to veil his messages (addressing his letter to "Snuffles", which Sirius himself comes up with a year ago, for starters). When he mentions Umbridge, he writes "she's nearly as nice as your mum", which, considering that Sirius has a low opinion of his obnoxious bigot of a mother (if her portrait is any indication), [[StealthInsult isn't meant to be flattering]].
** Marge indirectly throws one in Harry's direction early on in ''Prisoner of Azkaban''. "You see it all the time with dogs. If there's something wrong with the bitch, there'll be something wrong with the pup." Harry inadvertently makes her wine glass explode.
* ''A Portrait of Yo Mama as a Young Man'' takes this trope and CrossesTheLineTwice with it.
* In ''[[Literature/{{Discworld}} Nanny Ogg's Cookbook]]'', we're told that in some troll dialects, which rely a lot on guesture, extending one's hand to a troll is "a very bad remark about his mother". Apparently, it was some time before humans and trolls worked this miscommunication out.
* Kevin teases the schoolyard bully Bertram with one of these in ''Literature/TheEyesOfKidMidas''. Bertram is not amused--EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas.
* In ''Literature/TheWiseMansFear'', an ordinary mercenary attempts to pick a fight with Adem mercenary Tempi by suggesting that Tempi's mother was a whore. This falls rather flat as A: Tempi is unfamiliar with the [[TranslationConvention Aturan word for "whore"]] and B: Ademic culture does not have a stigma against prostitution. Once he's been made to understand what the other man said, he thanks him for speaking so kindly about his mother.
* This is the insult that sparks the whole plotline in ''Literature/{{Scaramouche}}''.
* ''Your mother is a tortoise'' is made into a running gag in ''Literature/MuchFallOfBlood''.
* Literature/TheBible:
** Pharisees occasionally used this to mock Jesus, accusing Him of being a bastard (obviously they wouldn't be mocking if they believed He really was born of a virgin).
** Earlier, in the Old Testament, Deborah and Barak sing a song that is covered in all of Judges 5. Towards the end, they rib on Sisera's mother a little bit.
* A minor character by the name of Corliss Penny in ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'' is taunted with "What sort of name is Penny, anyway? [[SonOfAWhore Is that how much your mother charged?]]"
* In Creator/MichaelConnelly's novel ''Literature/TheGodsOfGuilt'', Haller rattles off an incriminating license plate number--"One Echo Robert five six seven six"--and antagonist Detective Lee Lankford shoots back with "What is that, your mom's phone number?"
* ''Literature/SurvivorDogs'' has Lucky distracting the Fierce Dogs to save his friends. At first, they don't go after them, but after he ticks them off by insulting their parents, they chase him.
* The SF comedy "The Space Willies" by Creator/EricFrankRussell deconstructs it - due to LostInTranslation, "fat" means "dead". Misunderstanding ensues.
* In the third book of ''Literature/HankTheCowdog'', Hank and his nieces and nephews start a verbal war with a mother cat and her kittens. They start off with insulting, then they use this trope ''in song'' (the cats using a tune of "America the Beautiful" and the dogs using a tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean").
* In ''Literature/WolfHall'', Elizabeth Barton confronts Henry VIII in a crowd and starts giving doom-laden prophecies about his marriage to Anne Boleyn. Henry dismisses it with humor (when she says he won't reign seven months, he asks if she can round it up) until she says she can see his mother surrounded by pale fire. Then he gets very serious.
* In ''Literature/TheMartian'', when Mark Watney receives a communication from Venkat stating that NASA is setting up a committee to determine if any mistakes were made that led to Watney getting stranded on Mars, Watney sends this reply:
-->''Venkat, tell the investigation committee they'll have to do their witch hunt without me. And when they inevitably blame Commander Lewis, be advised I'll publicly refute it. I'm sure the rest of the crew will do the same.\\
Also, please tell them that each and every one of their mothers is a prostitute. - Watney. \\
PS: Their sisters, too.''

** One of the most offensive Klingon insults is "Hab [=SoSlI'=] Quch!", which translates to "Your mother has a [[RubberForeheadAlien smooth forehead!]]"
** In the EU, the full rule is "Never make fun of a Ferengi's mother -- insult something he cares about instead." That said, Quark does care about his mother more than most Ferengi.
* In one episode of ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'', Kirk has to try snapping Spock out of the influence of mind-altering spores by making him angry:
-->'''Kirk:''' "What can you expect from a simpering, devil-eared freak whose father was a computer and his mother an encyclopedia."
* In the ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'' episode "The Samaritan Snare", Captain Picard tells the story of how he came to need an artificial heart after unwisely insulting a group of Nausicans. His recounting of the events included one of these directed at the most fearsome of his opponents. Picard being Picard, though, the insult was couched in the most urbane terms possible:
-->'''Picard''': I stood toe-to-toe with the worst of the three, and told him what I thought of him, his pals, his planet, and I possibly made some passing reference to his questionable parentage...
* ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'':
** In "The Way of the Warrior", Klingons attempt to insult Odo in Klingon, and Garak replies with "Actually, I'm not sure Constable Odo ''has'' a mother."
** This exchange in "The Siege"
---->'''Bashir:''' Quark, leave it!\\
'''Quark:''' I can't leave it, it's all that I have. My personal mementos, my family album...\\
'''Bashir:''' It's full of gold-pressed latinum, and you know it.\\
'''Quark:''' ...Who told you?\\
'''Bashir:''' Your mother did, the day you were born.\\
'''Quark:''' NEVER-MAKE-FUN-OF-A-FERENGI'S-MOTHER. Rule of Acquisition Number 31!
* ''Series/StarTrekEnterprise'' pulled this in the Mirror Universe episode. During an interrogation of a Tholian, Hoshi interprets one of his defiant remarks as "something about your maternal ancestor".
* ''Series/{{House}}'':
** A a (deliberately) [[CringeComedy cringe-inducing]] moment when Chase [[LameComeback attempted a Yo mamma joke]]. It was horrific. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN2pV8S63rw Youtubage!]] (Probably not brain safe. Horrific is right.)
** Used subtly (well, as subtle as a your mom joke can be used) in later episode.
--->'''Foreman:''' How many of those have you had today?\\
'''House:''' I don't know. Is "your mother" a number?
* Creator/{{MTV}}:
** An entire show based around this trope, appropriately titled ''Yo Momma'' and hosted by Wilmer Valderrama (yes, [[Series/That70sShow THAT Wilmer Valderrama]]).
** In years before that, they would include ad bumpers of New Yorkers trash-talking each other in various settings (usually at one of NYC's famous public basketball courts).
* ''Series/{{Angel}}''
-->'''Angel:''' Another minute, and I would have given them everything. The ring, the scroll, your mom... how is your mom, anyways?
* From ''Series/{{Glee}}'':
-->'''Puck:''' Hey ankle grabber! I had sex with your mother. [[NotHyperbole No, seriously.]] I cleaned your pool, and then I had sex with her on your bed. Nice Star Wars sheets.
* ''Series/SummerHeightsHigh''
-->'''Kearin:''' ''All you FOBS have man boobs!''\\
'''Jonah:''' ''Yeah, well ya '''mum''' has man boobs! ''
* In an episode of ''Series/TheITCrowd'', Moss has been bullied and Roy attempts to help him stand up for himself by roleplaying:
-->'''Roy:''' Nice glasses!\\
'''Moss:''' Not as nice as your mum's glasses!\\
'''Roy:''' Still a little bit complimentary, but it's getting better.
* ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'':
** 6.07 "Family Matters", Christian Campbell catches Dean snooping around Samuel's office. As Dean comes up with a weak excuse about needing to call someone in privacy:
-->'''Christian''': Ah. Samuel's locked office. Pretty private. Who you calling?
-->'''Dean''': Your wife. Let her know I'm not gonna make it over tonight.
** When Dean and Crowley meet for the first time since the former was sent to Purgatory with Castiel, we get this exchange: "Where's your angel?" "Ask your mother."
** In "Time Is On My Side" Dean is torturing a demon with holy water.
(''Demon suddenly has BlackEyesOfEvil and a nasty smile'')\\
'''Demon:''' Your mother. Yeah, she showed it to me right before I bent her over.
* A constant theme in ''Radio/TheMaryWhitehouseExperience'''s [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nCKYEM8qRc History Today ]] sketches.
* The E4 Voiceover Man got a great one during an advert for ''Series/SchoolOfComedy''.
-->'''Kid:''' Slaphead!\\
'''Peter Dickson:''' Yeah? Well, your mum didn't seem to mind!
* ''Series/ThirtyRock'':
** "What's the difference between your mum and a washing machine? When I dump my load in a washing machine, it doesn't follow me around for a week afterwards!"
** Followed by Jack's [[NotSoAboveItAll rather surprising one]] when he asks Lemon to go to a fancy royal birthday celebration with him.
--->'''Liz Lemon:''' Okay I'll do it, but I won't like it.\\
'''Jack Donaghy:''' That's what your mom said last night. Booyah.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo7CiuFAz0M Liz gets in on it too]].
* Creator/SeanConnery in the ''Celebrity Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' sketches on ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' would repeatedly throw these at host Alex Trebek:
-->'''Trebek:''' This is the sound a doggy makes.\\
'''Sean Connery:''' Moo.\\
'''Trebek:''' That is incorrect.\\
'''Sean Connery:''' Well that's the sound your mother made last night!\\
'''Trebek:''' ...We would have accepted "bow wow" or "ruff".\\
'''Sean Connery:''' Ah, rough! Just the way your mother likes it, Trebek!
** or:
-->'''Sean Connery:''' It's been a long time Trebek.\\
'''Trebek:''' Not long enough.\\
'''Creator/SeanConnery:''' That's not what your mother said last night!
** or:
-->'''Creator/TomHanks:''' (hand is stuck in a pickle jar) But I want a pickle.\\
'''Trebek:''' But we can't keep playing unless you let go of the pickle.\\
'''Sean Connery:''' That's what your mother said last night!
** Also played with in the "Mother joke of the day" on the TalkShow parody ''I'm Chillin''.
* ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' itself had a category called "Your Momma!" on 12/16/2010, which brought laughter the first time a contestant picked it. The exact wording didn't help...
-->'''Contestant:''' Alex, I'll take "Your Momma!" for $400.
** A category (20th Century Women) in a 2004 'Power Players' episode prompted Al Franken to quip that he didn't know a lot about women. Alex responded with 'That's what your wife said'. The future Senator from Minnesota lunged at him, but was tackled by Keith Olbermann before he could reach the offending gameshow host.
* A [[http://snltranscripts.jt.org/08/08ugeithner.phtml satire of Timothy Geithner's "stress test" for banks]] had [=CitiGroup=] writing things that made fun of Geithner, complete with this gem:
-->"And [=CitiGroup=] wrote: 'Hey Geithner, WE'VE got a job for your MOTHER!!' Now, I don't know if they're serious about that job or not, but [[AccidentalInnuendo I think my mother would be really pumped.]]"
* From ''Series/HowIMetYourMother'', when the gang is helping Barney's mother move:
-->'''Barney:''' Whoa, Ted, that thing you're packing is way too big to fit in that box.
-->'''Ted:''' Yeah, that's what your mom said.
-->'''Barney:''' How dare you!
-->'''Ted:''' No, [[SincerityMode she actually said that]].
-->'''Barney's Mom:''' (walking in) Oh, dear, I thought I told you, that's just not going to fit in there.
* In the ''Series/MarriedWithChildren'' episode "Bearly Men", Al is about to fight with a street gang:
-->'''Al:''' Any last words, punk?\\
'''Gang member:''' Yeah, your wife's good in bed!\\
'''Al:''' [[InsultBackfire So, you're a liar, too!]] ''(punches him)''
** Bud and Kelly will often insult each other with barbs along the lines of "Eat Mom's cooking/Smell Dad's shoes". And have no problems saying it in front of their parents.
* A recurring sketch on ''[[Series/InLivingColor In Living Color!]]'' had a GameShow called "The Dirty Dozens," in which the host would supply the first part of the insult, and the contestants would ring in to finish it. For example:
-->'''Host''': (deadpan) "Yo mama so hairy..."\\
("T-Dogg" buzzes in)\\
'''Host''': T-Dogg\\
'''"T-Dogg"''': Yo mama so hairy, {{Bigfoot|SasquatchAndYeti}} be takin' pictures of her.
** Subverted when some of the categories don't lend themselves well to the joke: i.e. "Yo' momma so good at math ..."
** Later in the series they made "spinoff" versions such as ''[[Series/WheelOfFortune Wheel of Dozens]]'' and ''[[Series/FamilyFeud Family Dozens]]''.
* On a related note to the above, one time on the game show ''Cram'', a contestant had to recall lines from a book literally called ''Snaps: A Book of Insults''. Graham Elwood would start the insult and the contestant had to finish it, just like in the above skit. To her credit, she recalled seven of them successfully without missing, only stopped by the clock.
* The dirty dozens are SeriousBusiness for Mo and Marcus of ''Series/SmartGuy'', who treat it like a martial art, even bowing before and after a match. HilarityEnsues when they attempt to instruct Marcus' little brother TJ, the titular smart guy as a method of countering a bully who is mocking his ear size after his attempt at ignoring the bully failed outright. Although it was initially successful, it ended up backfiring on him when one of TJ's "Yo Momma" jokes (well, technically "Yo daddy", but still), "Hey, yo dad's so ugly that he ended up arrested for mooning", turned out not only to be very much true, but was also the bully's BerserkButton, as apparently he has to become the man of his household to fill in the void of the father's jailtime, the stress relating to it and craving for attention as a result acting as the [[FreudianExcuse very reason]] why he often has to bully others.
* ''Series/DoctorWho'':
** In [[Recap/DoctorWhoS31E6TheVampiresOfVenice "The Vampires of Venice"]], Rory, attempting to draw the Monster of the Week away from Amy, tells it "The only thing I've seen uglier than you is your mum!" The monster's [[EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas reaction]] cues an OhCrap look.
** Kind of subverted in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS28E4TheGirlInTheFireplace "The Girl in the Fireplace"]]. When the Doctor (who is probably drunk) confronts the clockwork robots, he says "You're Mr Thick Thickity Thick-Face from Thick Town, Thickainia... and so's your dad."
** [[Recap/DoctorWho2006CSTheRunawayBride "The Runaway Bride"]]: Donna and the Doctor are stuck in the middle of nowhere, and are trying to take a cab back to the church. Eventually they realize neither of them has any money. The cabbie dumps them out and all we hear is Donna scream, "And that goes double for your mother!"
* Phyllis uses this to get one over on Gene in ''Series/{{Life On Mars|2006}}''.
-->'''Gene''': Serves you right for staying up all night rutting with that new fella of yours. D'you let his guide dog watch?\\
'''Phyllis''': His guide dog's giving your mam one. From behind. ''(Sam smirks)'' \\
'''Gene'''(to Sam): Whatever 'appened to all the classy birds?
* In the ''Series/StargateSG1'' fifth season episode "Fail Safe", O'Neill and Jackson recount how a particular negotiation with the Asgard went south:
-->'''O'Neill''': ...And after that, I kind of lost my temper.\\
'''Hammond''': What exactly does ''that'' mean?\\
'''Jackson''': Let's just say Jack made a reference to Freyr's mother.
** [[GeniusBonus Nerthus]] which [[IncestIsRelative did it with her brother Njörd.]] You surely wanted to know that. Praise the Other Wiki.
* In ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'', Sheldon gets in on the Yo Mama action several times, it's used against him as well.
** When attempting to trash talk before a bowling match
--->''"You bowl like your mother, unless she's a competent bowler, in which case you bowl nothing like her."''
** Trash talking before a Robot Wars style battle
--->''"Also, I'm given to understand that your mother is overweight. Now of course if that is a result of a glandular condition and not sloth and gluttony, I withdraw that comment."''
** In S6 E20, Sheldon took the Yo Mama jokes to a new level (for him), saying he banged Raj's mom. This from an asexual virgin.
** When the guys fought for a ring from the production of ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'', they tried to get Sheldon down by talking about his mom's sex life. He seemed to be taking it reasonably well, so the guys stepped up and reminded him that his mee-maw had sex to have his mother, but not only that. They bet she also ''liked'' it.
* On one episode of the 60s ''Series/{{Batman}}'' TV series, a villain (possibly Shame) taunted Batman with, "Your mother wears army boots!" To which Batman responded, "[[InsultBackfire Why yes, she does... and she finds them quite comfortable!]]"
** Wait, Batman lied about his mother?!
* ''Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir'': Phillip Banks had an excellent response to this, in a scene that is PapaWolf, CrowningMomentOfAwesome, and CrowningMomentOfFunny [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uUu_xy7cro in one shot.]]
* ''Series/TheGoldenGirls'' had this [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu4MI5s4qZo a few times in an episode.]] Made funnier by how in a second scene it was Sophia, Dorothy's mom, about to say the line.
--> '''Dorothy''': Now are there any questions?
--> '''Kid''': Yes, Ms. Zbornak, what does Joe have to say about all this?
--> '''Dorthy''': Joe who?
--> '''Kid''': Joe Mama!
* One episode of ''Series/{{Castle}}'': Detectives Ryan and Esposito, two extremely close friends, are captured by the BigBad. Ryan is tortured for information while Esposito is ForcedToWatch. Esposito says he can't stand it anymore, and tells the BigBad: "Listen to me. You're too late. The cops already know everything about... me and your mom." Then he starts cracking up.
* In ''Series/ElChavoDelOcho'', whenever Dona Florinda slaps Don Ramón for something she thinks he did or tried to do, she usually tells him to do it to his grandmother. If El Chavo is around, he usually asks Don Ramón something about said grandmother. Feeling offended by the question, Don Ramón hits El Chavo and usually comments something about his grandmother as the sole reason he won't hit Chavo a second time. Example:
--> '''Doña Florinda''': Next time go act like a clown with your grandmother!
--> '''Chavo''': Don Ramón, your granny likes the circus?
--> '''Don Ramón''': TOMA! ''(hits Chavo)'' And I won't hit you twice only because my granny was a trapeeze artist...
** Dona Florinda's attitude is somewhat justified by the fact she and Don Ramón's grandmother are acquaintances and don't get along.
* In ''Series/HomeImprovement'', Tim Taylor often utilized this trope on his "Tool Time" co-host, Al Boarland. In the episode where Tim dreamt about an alien encounter and then during a show about roofing (while speculating that Al may be an alien):
-->'''Tim Taylor''': Your mother is so large, she might end up being your mothership. ''(Al Boarland then proceeds to attempt to chase and presumably attempt to beat up Tim for that remark as Tim leaves the set, the only thing stopping Al being the harness that's keeping him on the "roof.")''
** In another episode:
-->'''Tim Taylor:''' Your mother is so large, she has her own zip code.
** Tim has a point, though. Insulting as he is, Al's mother, although never actually seen, ''really is that large''. This was most emphasized during ''her funeral''. Not only was the casket sizable, but at the end of the episode, ''his momma was so heavy it took at least eight pall bearers to carry her casket out.''
* Averted in ''Series/WelcomeBackKotter'', when Kotter contrasts the Dozens with the "modern" (1970s) style of insult-duelling starting with the beginning of a classic "Your momma..."
-->'''Barbarino:''' Hey, say whatever you want about my dad or myself, but you don't talk about my mother! That woman's ''holy''.
* ''Series/{{MASH}}'' - Winchester is angry with Hawkeye and B.J. and stops talking. The two try to goad him out of his silence, saying to him "Your mother wears very expensive combat boots!" and very nearly getting him to crack with "Your parents voted for Roosevelt. ''Four times!''"
** This exchange in the mess tent between Burns and Houlihan, post-breakup:
--->'''Burns''': This place is a mess. Hey, I made a joke!\\

When she won't give it back he tells her "I'm very disappointed in you." She looks conciliatory and says "Herb? [flatly:] So's your mother."

And so's your dad! And so's your mom! And your sister swims out to troop ships!"
* ''Series/{{Community}}'': Used in a CrowningMomentOfAwesome.

[[spoiler:'''Pierce''']]: Your mother's lover. [shoots]
** Jeff also fires one off at Shirley when she and Annie are interrogating him over a backfired prank that's caused nothing but trouble. * A quite adorable example from a talkshow on Swedish Television hosted by stand-up comedian Robin Paulsson. The show had pre-recorded sketches starring Paulsson where the humor often rested on him getting things horribly wrong and then digging himself deeper. The relevant example had Paulsson rap-battling in an alley and never once managing to get a boast right or an insult in, in fact just being awkward. In a last-ditch attempt he resorted to the ever-effective Yo Mama strategy. After some rhymes along the lines of "your mom's always kind and helpful", Paulsson looked over his shoulder to find that his homies had left the scene.
* Defied in ''Series/BrooklynNineNine'': Detective Peralta gets into a VolleyingInsults match with the obnoxious Fire Marshall Boone. * The video for Biz Markie's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aofoBrFNdg You Got What I Need]] opens with Biz and his friends engaged in The Dozens.
* Music/BarenakedLadies' "Enid" inexplicably starts with the sound of a radio tuning into a Music/DepecheMode sounding guy singing "The silence/The terror/The pain/The horror/As your mom comes downstairs." -->'''Vierri''': Are you afraid to handle things yourself?
-->'''Ezio''': Your sister seemed quite satisfied with the "handling" I gave her.
** Of course, given that this is [[TheCasanova Ezio]] we're talking about, odds are that's NOT just a snappy comeback.
** He also plays this trope straight in at least one of his combat taunts: "Your mama can't help you now!"
** Seen again in ''Revelations'' when Ezio finds himself in a street-fight;

-->'''Grubba:''' Hyuk hyuk! Your challenger is real confident, boys! Yep, he's talkin' trash... "Iron Adonis Twins?" he said. "More like Paper Dog-Face Bros.! ...And they stink!" * ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'': In the WebAnimation/StrongBadEmail "other days", Strong Bad apparently attempted one in response to an annoying request from a Polish viewer, but it comes out as "Your mother is the speed limit" ("Twoja matka jest ograniczenie prędkości"). Oddly enough, this isn't a case of MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels because both the email and his response are typed ''in English'' and translated by a voiceover.
* ''Machinima/ArbyNTheChief'':

* ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'':
** Used in the short "Bewitched Bunny", when WesternAnimation/BugsBunny alerts Literature/HanselAndGretel to the fact the nice old lady feeding them sweets is a witch (Witch Hazel) [[ImAHumanitarian who plans on eating them for dinner]]. They run off, but not before delivering this remark:
--->'''Hansel & Gretel:''' Ah, your mother rides a vacuum cleaner!
** Also used in another Bugs cartoon, "Bunker Hill Bunny": when Yosemite Sam, who plays a Hessian in this Revolutionary War-themed cartoon, calls out to Bugs that he intends to destroy him, Bugs shouts back, "Ah, your brother blows bubble gum!", which infuriates Sam.
** Also used in the 1949 cartoon "Paying the Piper" where Porky Pig (as the Pied Piper) is frequently insulted in this manner by a cat who's furious that all the rats have been removed from town.
--->'''Cat:''' Ah, your sister smokes corn silk!\\
'''Porky:''' My sister doesn't smoke corn silk, [[CarnivoreConfusion she works in a butcher shop and smokes hams!]]\\
'''Cat:''' Ah, your brother eats jelly beans!\\
'''Porky:''' Gee, I wonder how he knows so much about my family?
** At the end of the cartoon, the cat resorts to stealing Porky's reward money to get back at him, but Porky manages to steal the money back and tells the cat "Ah, your father drives a p-p-pickle wagon!"
* ''WesternAnimation/MegasXLR'': When the MonsterOfTheWeek is Grrkek, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "The Planet Killer"]]
-->'''Grrkek''': I feel good enough to kill a thousand planets! Guess where I'm going to start?\\
'''Coop''': Uh, I dunno, ''Your MOM'S HOUSE?!''
* ''WesternAnimation/BabyHuey'':
-->'''Bully''': Your mother wears army boots!\\
'''Huey''': Uhh, [[InsultBackfire yes]]!
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Sealab 2021}}'', Quinn uses the "That's what your Momma said" variant on Capt. Shanks in "Let 'Em Eat Corn". When Shanks [[LampshadeHanging points out]] how unoriginal an insult it is, Quinn produces a tape recorder ''and'' video evidence; much to Shanks' infuriation, it turns out his Momma really ''did'' say that!
* WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants once got a prank phone call and asked who is calling: "Joe Mama? Well, listen, Joe..."
* ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'':
** In the episode "Great Space Roaster", Roger forces the members of the family to insult each other. Steve tells this to Francine: "Mom, you are not smart. I don't tell "yo mama's so dumb" jokes. I tell "my mama's so dumb" jokes.
** Also when Bullock is giving a speech at the start of an episode...
--->'''Bullock:''' (''a bit of paper flies past'') Who threw that?!\\
'''Some random agent:''' YOUR MOTHER'S ASS!!
** Again when Steve and Akiko are facing each other in a spelling bee. Francine had held Akiko hostage so she wouldn't be able to compete and also to make Steve think she didn't like him:
--->'''Akiko:''' Steve, I can explain. Your mother--\\
'''Steve:''' No, ''your'' mother!\\
'''Akiko:''' But--\\
'''Steve:''' YOUR MOTHER!
** Stan often taunts Steve by telling him that he had sex with the boy's mom the previous night. Stan and Francine are Steve's biological parents and happen to be happily married, meaning that the taunts are likely to be literally true in many cases. It's unclear if this makes them less effective, or ''even more'' effective than the standard YourMom joke.
--->'''Steve:''' Ah! You got it in my eye! ''[Sigh]'' I know, I know, "that's what Mom said last night."\\
'''Stan:''' That's right! When I was doing her!
* ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce'':
** At the end of the episode "The Dressing", Carl answers his doorbell, eating a turkey drumstick, to find himself being threatened by an army of robot turkeys armed with laser socks. When one of the turkeys asks what he thinks he's eating, [[FacingTheBulletsOneLiner Carl replies "Your mother!" before getting blown up]].
** Also, at the start of another episode, Dr. Weird tries to convince his assistant Steve to chop off his head, in the hopes that the HighPressureBlood will propel his corpse "'''all the way to Phoenix!'''"
--->'''Steve:''' Uh, what's in Phoenix?\\
'''Dr. Weird:''' Why, it's your momma, Steve! Get the axe!
** In "Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future", the Ghost tells Carl and the Aqua Teens a rambling story about how Santa Claus originated as a paleolithic ape-man who enslaved alien elves to make toys for early hominid children. When he gets to the part about the elves trying to unionize, Frylock has completely lost the thread of the plot.
--->'''Frylock:''' Wait, who unionized?\\
'''Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future:''' [[AC: Wouldn't you like to know? Probably your momma!]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TheGrimAdventuresOfBillyAndMandy'':
** An episode where Principal Goodvibes becomes a trash-talking rap star thanks to the power of Grim's scythe. He's only defeated when he's bested in a game of "the dozens" by ''[[CoolOldLady Irwin's grandmother]]''.
** Also Parodied in "Chickenball Z":
--->'''Sperg:''' You got something to say to me, squirt?\\
'''Mandy:''' Your mother [[SubvertedTrope has a job and is a respected member of the community.]]\\
'''Sperg:''' No-one talks about my mother that way!
* ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow'':
** In the episode "Prank Callers", Mordecai and Rigby prank Pops by asking him to stay on hold for a call from Joe Mama. Of course, this being Pops, he ''actually stays on hold''.
** Invoked in another episode where Mordecai confronts Muscle Man over the latter's CatchPhrase "You know who else _____? MY MOM!" He tells Muscle Man that for the joke to work it should be "your mom", then gives three "your mom" jokes as examples. Muscle Man [[BerserkButton isn't amused.]] [[spoiler:Actually he didn't care and was just messing with them.]]
* In the ''WesternAnimation/DuckTales'' episode "The Robot Robbers" (yes, it was based on a Creator/CarlBarks story), Scrooge had Launchpad [=McQuack=] flying a helicopter with a banner reading "MA BEAGLE HAS FLEAS!" in order to lead the Beagle Boy-controlled robots into the town reservoir.
* In ''WesternAnimation/PinkyAndTheBrain'', one of Brain's plans to TakeOverTheWorld required Pinky to make him angry in order to transform into a [[JekyllAndHyde Hyde]] version of himself. Unfortunately, Pinky had a hard time ''deliberately'' making Brain mad:
-->'''Pinky:''' Your mother, she's, uh, older than you!
* ''WesternAnimation/HomeMovies'': Jason and Melissa want Brendon to know his mom is becoming a nuisance trying to work her way into the movie they're making -- they confront him with "Your mother." He goes "Whoa!...is that like 'Yo mama'?"
* WesternAnimation/GravityFalls,
-->'''Nate:''' Good job throwing the kid off the fence, genius!\\
'''Lee:''' Your mom's a genius.
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'':
** When [[YourSoulIsMine Marceline's dad, the Lord of Evil,]] goes topside in and comes across the marauders. [[spoiler:He then proceeds to suck out all their souls as promised.]]
--->'''Marceline's dad:''' What wears a dark suit, is completely evil, and is about to suck out all your souls?\\
'''Marauder:''' Yo ''mama!''\\
'''Marceline's dad:''' ... That's right. I'm your mama.
** In "Hug Wolf", Finn gets bitten by the titular wolf and he's been trying to control the transformation, but the "hug lust" takes over his mind. Jake has him tied up and is trying to calm him down:
--->'''Jake:''' Finn, say something to reassure me!\\
'''Finn:''' (''growling'') I'LL HUG YOUR MOM!
* ''WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003'' has this exchange from "The Way of Invisibility"
-->'''Hun:''' ''(examining Raph's sai)'' This is some nice steel. How about telling me who gave them to you?\\
'''Raph:''' Yo' momma.
* ''WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012'': The episode "Metalhead" has this exchange between Donatello and a Kraang.
-->'''Donatello:''' Hey, Kraang! The one who is called your mother wears the boots that are made for combat!\\
'''Metalhead [[StrangeSyntaxSpeaker Kraang]]:''' The comment that is made by you shows ignorance of Kraang. The ones known by you as mother--\\
'''Donatello:''' Just come get me!
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Stoked}}'': Bummer understands seagull language and says one insulted his mother.
* ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'': Averted in Rick Potion #9, with 'Your mom was my Jessica, and that's not an urban diss.'
* Occurs in ''WesternAnimation/TheNewScoobyDooMovies'', of all places, in "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair", the first of the two episodes to guest-star Batman and Robin. When Daphne asks the Joker if he knows Mrs. Baker, the Clown Prince of Crime replies that he knows Mrs. Baker and that she is "that creature's mother" (referring to Scooby).
* Inverted in ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong'' where insulting [[MommasBoy a mountain troll's]] mother is [[BerserkButton a bad idea]] as Trixie and Spud found out.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'': One episode had Mr. Cat try to make Kaeloo angry so that she could [[HulkingOut Hulk Out]] and fight a bunch of zombies, so he read out an insult from a book:
-->'''Mr. Cat:''' Your mom is so ugly, she'd flip out a zombie!
* In the ''WesternAnimation/GarbagePailKidsCartoon'' movie parody segment ''[[Film/ConanTheBarbarian1982 Savage Stuart the Garbage Pail Barbarian]]'', one of Savage Stuart's attempts at making Galloping Glen mad is by asking him if it is true his mother wears army horseshoes, a play on the classic "your mother wears army boots" insult.
* Occurs in ''WesternAnimation/MikeTysonMysteries'' when the gang encounters a SoulSavingCrusader:
-->'''Christian Youth:''' Uh, unfortunately, you won't be joining us in the kingdom of {{Heaven}} because you're gay. You'll be going to {{Hell}}.
-->'''Marquess:''' Okay, well I'll be sure to say hi to your mom when I get there, fuck-face.

[[folder:Real Life]]
* This {{trope}} is probably why the phrase "son of a bitch" exists.
* A common Chinese insult is "肏你妈 / 操你媽" (''cào nǐ mā'', pronounced "tsao"), which literally means "fuck your mother". The "[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_Mud_Horse Grass Mud Horse]]" meme is closely related, the two phrases being near-homophones.
* In Russian, you can say "Ёб твою мать" (''yob tvoyú mat'''), which means exactly the same thing.
** In fact, the Russian catch-all term for obscenity, ''mat'' derives from that phrase.
* In German there is also one: "Fick deine Mutter.".
** Or, to make it even a tad more spot-on: "Deine Mudda".
*** An incident went viral on the internet, where a german teenager responded to this with an InsultBackfire: "Halt dein Maul du Hurensohn, Ich bin deine Mutter", in english "Shut up you son of a bitch, I am your mom"
* Similarly, the worst insults in Arabic (in Egypt at any rate) are ''kuss ummak'' and ''aḥḥa'' (both figuratively "fuck!", "fuck that!", or "fuck you!" depending on context), literally translate to, respectively, "your mother's cunt" and... well... it's hard to explain. Let's just say that ''aḥḥa'' is derived from ''aḥḥ'', which is the Arabic onomatopoeia for a woman having an orgasm...
** In Modern Hebrew this particular phrase and a ton of other Arabic vulgarities are also commonly used.
* An example from... the United States Senate? Yeah, sure, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jj6pqajvB8 why not.]]
-->'''Jon Kyl (R-AZ)''': I don't need maternity care. So requiring that on my insurance policy is something that I don't need and will make the policy more expensive.\\
'''Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)''': I think your mom probably did.
* Debatable in real life, because the comeback's been attributed to at least two different people: supposedly someone poked fun at a bald man by running a hand over his head and saying, "Your head feels just like my wife's butt!" Of course, that opened him up to the bald man stroking his own head and saying, "Why, so it does!"
** This similar exchange, often considered one of the funniest incidents in sports:
--->'''Glenn [=McGrath=]:''' "Why are you so fat?"
--->'''Eddo Brandes:''' "Because every time I fuck your wife she gives me a biscuit!"
* Backfired when Rodney Marsh tried to use the line on Ian Botham:
--> '''Marsh:''' How's your wife and my kids?
--> '''Botham:''' The wife's fine, but the kids are retarded.
* Ancient Germanic tribes, like the Anglo-Saxons and the Norse, opened all their battles by trading insults about their mothers.
* In the late [[UsefulNotes/TheRomanRepublic Roman Republic]], Creator/{{Cicero}} was [[DeadpanSnarker known for his wit]]. When a man named Metellus repeatedly asked him "Who's your father, Cicero?" he replied, "For you, your mother has made the question difficult to answer."\\
For a little context, Cicero was a ''[[SelfMadeMan novus homo]]'' (new man), meaning nobody in his family had ever been a senator or a member the Roman government before. Asking who his father was was a way of insulting him and saying that Cicero was a nobody, which given how the Roman Republic was far more of a oligarchy than a modern republic, was a big insult and a big impediment to being taken seriously.
* [[http://textsfromlastnight.com/Text-Replies-2783.html This]] Text From Last Night is a double example, combined nicely with InsultBackfire.
* Profanity in Latin countries commonly centers around insulting other people's mothers. "Chinga tu madre," or "fuck your mother," is often considered one of the most potent insults possible in Mexican Spanish. "Tu madre es una puta" ("your mother is a whore"), "la puta que te parió" ("the whore who gave you birth"), or "hijo de puta" ("son of a whore/bitch") has similar effects in many Latin American countries. In Puerto Rico it's sometimes shortened to "tu madre".
** In Spain itself, the SpearCounterpart inversion "¡Tu padre!" ["Your father!"] is also not unheard of, though it's easy enough to fire back with "¡Tuyo!" ["''Yours!''"]
*** Ironically, although insults like "hijo de puta" or "tu puta madre" are so commonplace in Spain they hardly have any effect, apparently innocuous retorts such as "Tu madre... ¿bien?" ["''Is your mother doing fine?''"] or "Recuerdos a tu madre" ["''Give your mother my regards''"] can be a veritable BerserkButton, probably because of the [[IBangedYourMom subtle implications]].
** A common comeback is to say "tu jefa" (literally meaning 'your female boss', actually meaning 'your mom').
** Note that this is used by women as well as men. It's especially funny when [[InsultBackfire a woman calls her own son "un hijo de puta"]], which happens more often than you'd think (and then can be retorted into "IHaveNoSon")
** The usual way to return an insult or to turn a statement into one is to use "tu abuela" or "su abuela" (your grandmother!). In some places "la tuya que es mi comadre" ("your [mom], my kid's godmother") is used to the same effect.
** Since the Philippines was a Spanish colony for a few centuries, the word "puta" has made it's way into the native tongue. "Putang ina mo!" (your mother is a whore!) is the most beloved of all curses used by everyday Filipinos, although the shorter "'tangina!" has since devolved into an expression of disbelief, among many other meanings.
** In a combination of this trope and CountryMatters, the insult "¡el coño de tu madre!" (literally "YourMom's cunt!") and its abbreviations is the most used insult in Venezuela. Cuban Spanish is similar, although it's often shortened to just "coño".
** Sometimes it suffices to play the syllable pattern of "itu madre" on your car horn to insult sufficiently.
* In Brazil (and possibly other Latin American nations), one category of people known for having their mothers insulted like that are soccer referees. A series by local HBO which starred a referee was even named ''FDP'', Portuguese for "SOB".
* While we're still at the country list, in the German satire illu "Titanic" there once was an article how, if you got lost on the Balkan, you can at least pinpoint the state by observing whether your mother, your daughter or your sister is mentioned.
* Crossing over somewhat with IBangedYourMom: In an UsefulNotes/AustralianRulesFootball match between the St Kilda Saints and the Brisbane Lions, Brett Voss (playing for St Kilda) was lining up for a shot at goal when he heard someone call out "My old man fucked your mum!" He turned to see that the player who had said it was... his brother Michael, who played for Brisbane. Given that what he said was fact, it's hard to tell whether he was just joking or playing around with that shout.
* According to Ashley Montagu's ''The Anatomy of Swearing'', the phrase "''Kwoy inam''!" (literally: "Cohabit with thy mother!") is used as a mild diss in the Trobriand Islands. (It's more insulting to tell someone to screw his sister, and [[LogicBomb even worse to tell him to screw his]] ''[[LogicBomb wife]]''.)
* Hungarian Bishop and poet Janus Pannonius was often teased by other students in Italy for his barbarian heritage. One of his famous retorts would basically come down to "your mother is a bitch". [[MundaneMadeAwesome Except it's a Latin epigram, written in hexametres]].
* Creator/HyndenWalch (in-character as [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Starfire]]) [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGgvPfyRc8c tells the nicest Yo Momma joke ever]].
* Creator/ChristopherSabat[[note]]Voice actor for Creator/FUNimation, best known for dubbing the ''Manga/DragonBall'' trilogy[[/note]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjlENx0Ntc4 has apparently encountered]] a T-shirt reading "Your Mom is Over 9000."
* Creator/HidekiKamiya loves to reply to stupid Twitter questions with "Ask your mom".
* In Romania, the expression "Your Mom" , translated as "Mama ta", is sometimes shortened as "ma-ta". An awful lot of people don't actually know that there's a hyphen between "ma" and "ta" in the short form, causing many comedy shows and blogs to compose a song, "Ma-ta are cratima" ("Your mom has a hyphen") to mock the young who "don't even know how to insult each other's mothers correctly."
* In Bulgarian, insults to ones mother close to IBangedYourMom can have various meanings depending on the person and tense in the sentence:
** "[I want to/am going to] bang your/his/her/its/their mom" - general expression of frustration, roughly equivalent to "fuck you".
** "Now I banged your (his/her/...) mom" - "I'll kick your ass".
** "I've banged its mom" - "fuck if I care".
** "[[{{Squick}} It's banged its mom]]" - "that's really fucked up".
** "Go bang its mom" - expression of resignation, close to "screw it".
** "Go bang your mom" - about as polite as "go fuck yourself".
** "He/she/it got his/her/its mom banged" - major damage, like "he got his ass kicked" or "it got totaled".
* In Portuguese there are two ways of saying "Son of a bitch": "Filho/Filha da puta" ("Son/Daughter of the whore") is the most damaging version, while "Filho/Filha da mãe" ("Son/Daughter of the [[MathematiciansAnswer mother]]) was originally a [[MincedOath Minced Swear]] before becoming a swear in and of itself.
* A subtle example took place during the Fort Lee Lane Closure of '13 when David Wildstein, Director of Interstate Capital Projects for the New Jersey Port Authority, who had ordered the surprise lane closure, said of the local schoolkids, "They are the children of [[TakeThat Buono voters]]." This was an obvious reference to the New Jersey governor's political rival.
* Caitlin Moran, in a chapter "How to be a Woman", talks about how some hecklers would [[YouAreFat yell at her that she's fat]], so she ended up replying "That's because every time your dad fucks me, he gives me a cookie."
* "Your mothers wear ballet slippers!" happens to be the ''second'' most popular such zinger against the [[StarTrek Klingons]] and their cosplayers, considering the Klingons are the stereotypical ProudWarriorRaceGuys and the insult implied that their mothers preferred the arts to "acceptable" military pastimes.
* [[https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwi0s-uW--XTAhWo24MKHboRCx0QyCkIJDAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DiYx_aGlmyc4&usg=AFQjCNFTB1QeU9f2qXV9Bbly1gULkPI_Pg I said whoever threw that paper, your mom's a hoe!]]
* Italian footballer Marco Materazzi got headbutted for this by French footballer Zinedine Zidane during the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin. They were taunting each other during play, but Materazzi then made the stupid move of saying he wanted to bang Zidane's sister (not his mother, as earlier reported).
* The Victorian expression "Has your mother sold her mangle?" which had the implication that she was poor and had to take in washing (it's not clear whether the further implication that she no longer had to take in washing, hence selling it, because she had another source of income - hem, hem - is intentional).
Your mom's a trope!
