Arise! Arise! Arise! Millions of but one heart braving the enemies' fire! March on!
Qilai, Qilai! is an Alternate History timeline created by SakuraF of AlternateHistory.com, detailing an alternate history of China and the world in general. It begins with Georgy Zhukov becoming leader of the Soviet Union and Mao Zedong being forced out of leadership in the early 1950s, and continues to the present day, and slightly into the future.
This alternate history contains examples of:
- Butterfly Effect: A different transfer of power in the Soviet Union leads to a massively different world, especially China.
- China Takes Over the World: The basic idea of the timeline.
- Different World, Different Movies:
- In this timeline's version of The West Wing, James Earl Jones plays the President.
- Due to several cast members' deaths in terrorist attacks, Friends is cut off at Season 9.
- Phineas and Ferb is an educational program to improve child intelligence.
- 99% of television and movies produced in the 21st Century are in some way affected by the Black April attacks.
- The Empire: The European Federation, after they unite in 2010.
- From Bad to Worse: Jeremy Clarkson's adventure in Argentina ended up worse and get captured by angry Argentinian militants. It triggered that world's equivalent of the Falklands War.
- In Spite of a Nail: Nickelodeon, The West Wing, and Friends still exist in some form or another.
- George W. Bush still becomes President, albeit a very different one.
- The Men of Downing Street: The Prime Minister from 1997 to 2005 is John Lennon.
- He is succeeded by men of lesser known positions IRL, such as Francis Maude.
- Nuclear Weapons Taboo: Somewhat broken by the Kargil War, in which both India and Pakistan launch nuclear weapons against each other.
- Both nations essentially cease to exist after the war.
- Afterwards, several are used by Islamic terrorists against Washington, D.C..
- People's Republic of Tyranny: Largely averted in China, although it does take some questionable actions.
- Putting on the Reich: The European Commonwealth (later Federation) becomes effectively fascist by 2016.
- Averted in Germany, with a military coup d'etat against the Populist right-wing government. Germany then overthrows the Austrian government and annexes it.
- America has a brief experience with that, but it does not end well for the President.
- The Republic: A coalition of the USSR, the People's Republic of China, and the USA.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Alternate Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore are Republicans, and the George W. Bush counterpart is a Democrat.
- 25th Amendment: Due to the nuking of Washington, DC, Speaker of the House Herbert Bush becomes President. (Although, in-universe, that's the 24th Amendment.)
- Unexpected Successor:
- Nobody probably expected Puyi, the last Qing Emperor of China, to end up leading it in the 1960s and 1970s.
- Steve Jobs as General Secretary of the USSR. And his successor is Catherine Poklonskaya, who in the real world is (in)famous as a prosecutor in Crimea during the Ukrainian crisis in 2014.
