One Grave at a Time is the sixth novel of the Night Huntress series.

Cat and Bones find themselves up against the vengeful spirit of a witch hunter.

Tropes:

  • Burn the Witch!: Heinrich Kramer had burned numerous women as witches in life, and continues to do so as a malevolent spirit.
  • The Fundamentalist: Heinrich Kramer is a religious fanatic who uses his religion to justify his horrible deeds.
  • Hanging Judge: Heinrich Kramer had used his position as inquisitor in life to sentence innocent women to burn to death after raping them.
  • Resurrected Murderer: Inquisitor Heinrich Kramer, a witch hunter and official who raped several women and burned them at the stake as witches, was knocked off his horse to his death centuries before the novel starts. In present day, continues driving people to suicide while he is a ghost, and whenever he becomes tangible on All Hallows' Eve, rapes women before burning them at the stake like he did in life.
  • Serial Killer: Heinrich Kramer has been burning women alive for centuries after his death, just as he did during his lifetime.
  • Serial Rapist: Heinrich Kramer has been raping women for centuries after his death, just as he did during his lifetime.
  • Straw Misogynist: Heinrich Kramer claims women are the root of all evil, and persecutes them on those grounds.
  • The Witch Hunter: Heinrich Kramer had pursued those he had believed to be witches, sentencing many innocent women to death.
