Angry quote from a Caustic Critic
— Caustic Critic, Episode of a review show covering one of the below works.
Claim that while there are many good works in this medium, there are also many bad ones.
Important Notes:
- Merely being offensive in its subject matter is not sufficient. Hard as it is to imagine at times, there is a market for all types of deviancy, no matter how small a niche it is. It has to fail to appeal even to that niche to qualify as this.
- A work doesn't qualify as Horrible just because [overly long list of Caustic Critics specializing in the medium] or any other Caustic Critic hated it or it has a low critical score.
Examples
- Example of a work that is infamous for being horrible. Link to a review from a well-known Caustic Critic. Link to another review that was removed because This Troper hates the reviewer.
- Example of a work that is infamously bad, but has a large fandom that loves making fun of it.
- Another So Bad, It's Good work, but most of its "fans" got the work online for free. It would be a lot harder to ironically enjoy the work if you paid full price when it first came out, so it manages to qualify for both So Bad, It's Good and Horrible at the same time.
- Example from a work that is considered awful by most people, but it has a fan following overseas or in its homeland that disqualify it.
- Example of a work that is So Okay, It's Average, but is so obscure that nobody will ever bother removing it.
- Example of an Author Tract for a very controversial political ideology that is mostly used to insult said ideology by implying that anything affiliated with it is automatically Horrible.
- Example of an Author Tract that is so bad, even people who agree with its message hate it.
- Example of a video game that launched in an Obvious Beta state very recently, but will probably have its bugs patched into a playable state soon enough.
- Example of a trailer that misrepresents the work it's promoting, scaring off potential audiences.
- Example about a trailer for an upcoming work that looks like it will be bad. The example mostly focuses on the work itself, and essentially bashes the trailer for representing it accurately. The example was added mainly to complain about the work itself before it even comes out.
- Example that claims that the work is so bad, it makes Sonichu look good in comparison.
- Example of a well-known work with a large fanbase that was added by a Fan Hater.
- Example of weird pornography that is possibly illegal in certain countries. The example is based entirely on the work catering to a disturbing fetish and ignores: 1) that some people are into this kind of stuff; and 2) that this kind of example was responsible for getting the Horrible Fan Fiction page deleted.
- Example of a bad work that focuses more on the author's poor behavior towards critics than the actual content. Possibly features a few personal attacks against the author, even though this is not allowed.
- Example that mentions a controversy that overshadows the work, then add "but even without it, it's still bad."
- Example that mostly criticizes the work for containing too much Toilet Humor.
- Example that points out a number of flaws, but mostly complains about the Unfortunate Implications found in the work, even though the work is merely So Okay, It's Average if you accept that the Unfortunate Implications are just that - implications, that are unfortunate.
- Example that only complains about "Unfortunate Implications " and nothing else. Said "implications" are actually intentional hate speech, because the work is a bigoted Author Tract. Even though the work wasn't hated by actual bigots, meaning it technically doesn't qualify as Horrible, nobody wants to remove it out of fear of coming across as defending the work's hateful message.
- Example that was added right after a well-known Caustic Critic uploaded a review covering multiple works, including this one. Claim that, of all works featured in that review, this is by far the worst one.
- Example that expresses disbelief that some well-respected actors were involved in the work. Possibly (mis)uses Questionable Casting to complain about these actors taking a job that was clearly below them.
- Generic statement about the work being bad, with no real elaboration, beyond maybe an external link that might be dead.
- Example that's still on the page despite having an ironic following.
