Ho Yay / Space Goofs

Go To

For a show that is about five naked male aliens crash landing on Earth and being forced to live together in a single house, the subtext between them is surprisingly astounding. However, some of it involving Candy depends on which dub the viewers are watching since Candy is not seen as male in every country; most particularly the Latin American Spanish dub. Any moments involving Candy interacting with a male character in the Stupid Invaders game do not count as Ho Yay as that iteration of Candy is a transgender woman.

  • In some of the episodes, Bud, Candy, Etno, and Stereo are shown sharing a bed. While it can be argued that it is for the sake of convenience, it can be shown as rather odd considering that Candy and Bud are shown to have their own bedrooms in some episodes and Gorgious prefers to sleep in a bathtub as his own bed.
  • “The Flyling” has Bud take care of an injured male fly, forming a very deep friendship with him. Bud’s acts with the fly include sharing a bed while eating pizza on it and using the SMTV to turn into a fly while he and the fly twirl around and hold hands. When Bud is told to let the fly go , Bud gets very upset about it as he and the fly cry into each other’s arms more than once. Even after letting the fly go free, Bud discovers that the fly has somehow laid a lot of eggs and the aliens get furious at Bud and looking at him as if he was the father.
  • In "No Account Art" Etno gives Gorgious a fourth wall breaking pep talk after Gorgious gets upset over a fact that an artist who moved into the aliens house is taking credit for his work. Gorgious happily responds to the pep talk by kissing Etno on the mouth. Etno reacts only slightly to this and is seen wiping his lips afterwards.
  • In some of the episodes where the aliens pretend to be humans such as "Buy Now, Pay Later" Etno and Candy often pretend to be husband and wife.
  • In "Inside Gorgious", Candy is very eager to care for Gorgious when he's sick, even massaging his feet and saying that he feels much closer to him.
  • When Candy asks to be pinched near the end of "Welcome!", Gorgious does so off-screen, with Candy's surprised reaction suggesting it was someplace tender
  • The episode “First Love” has Candy disguise himself as a beautiful human woman in order to drive Bud, Etno, Gorgious, and Stereo away from an attractive woman after they all become smitten with her when she moves into the house. All four of the aliens fall head over heels for the human Candy with Etno displaying hearts over his body.
    • Even after the woman leaves in disgust and the aliens revert back to their normal selves, Bud and Etno still get bubbly over Candy, with Bud massaging Candy’s feet and Etno fanning him with an ancient feather fan.
  • Candy is revealed to have an huge obsession with a singer named Snoutra (an anthropomorphic pig parody of Frank Sinatra), having merchandise of him all over the frilly pink bedroom he sometimes sleeps in. When Snoutra moved into the house, Candy goes into creepy stalker territory, going as far as submerging himself into a swimming pool with a brick to see Snoutra swimming and he sighs in admiration. Candy even watches Snoutra sleep from a ceiling and exhibits bulging hearts that light up in his eyes.
  • “Tired Big Time” has a new tenant with a sleepwalking problem unconsciously take Candy and use him as a sleeping aide in a similar manner to a plush toy after the aliens steal the tenant’s sleeping patches
    • During the mission to help candy escape the aforementioned sleepwalker, Gorgious tried to get Candy out of the bed through yanking his feet while Bud replaced candy with an actual plush toy and while Etno tickles the tenant. Gorgious upon given the signal yanks Candy out of the bed so quickly that it causes Candy to land on Gorgious’ mouth crotch first and stays in that suggestive position for a bit while Gorgious makes vibrating and blowing noises.
  • The episode “Macho Kung Fu” can rather been seen by fans as having an alternate title called “Macho Kung Ho Yay fu” considering that same sex subtext is everywhere in that episode.
    • To start, Gorgious is revealed to have a huge fanboy crush on Kung Fu master Steve Wong ( A Bruce Lee knockoff). And goes as far as the thinly dress up as himself gorgious even says I love you so much to Steve with hearts in his eyes while highing him for a few seconds.
    • After finding out that Steve Wong likes ballet, Candy disguises himself as a human to get close to him with the form being a man with no shirt and having a womanly hairstyle, which Wong compliments as beautiful. They even sit by the fireplace together while enjoying chai tea and cookies.
    • After Candy gets involved with Steve Wong, Gorgious gets jealous and fights with Candy over Wong’s affection but their efforts are rendered moot when Wong’s identical stunt double arrives to apologize for walking out on him and wish to make more films with him and they both leave with their arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders. This whole scene basically follows the “two guys fight each other for a woman’s affections only for both to be rejected in favor of a third man” plot cliche.
  • “Be My Friend” is yet another episode with lots of same gender subtext. After finding out about a monster named Maloo through a girls diary, Candy calls out for Maloo to spend time with it. After apparently getting his wish, Candy has some questionable friendship moments with Maloo such as using a large thermometer on him that looks rectal, slapping Maloo on the butt after treating him like a baby, and playing patty cake. However, Candy does not know that “Maloo” is actually Gorgious in disguise.
    • When the real Maloo shows up and the other aliens complain about his stench, Candy decide to give Maloo a bath, going as far as to jump into the tub with him. They then decide to spend a lot of time skipping around in a flowery meadow together.
