There are plenty of moments in the story that can be deeply read into, and it doesn't help that some of the characters themselves do it as well.

     Kim Dokja / Yoo Jonghyuk
  • Kim Dokja and Yoo Jonghyuk... Where to even start with these guys? They wear matching clothes, constantly die for each other, and the universe literally recognized their bond through their story Life and Death Companions. That and of course, there's also Dokja reading and essentially devoting his life to reading about Yoo Jonghyuk's over the years.
    • Not to mention the time it was prophesied that Kim Dokja would be killed by the person he loved most, and then Yoo Jonghyuk ran him through with a sword and held him while he died. And, of course, this only happened because Kim Dokja was sacrificing his life to save Yoo Jonghyuk's.
    • Or when everyone thought Kim Dokja was dead and Yoo Jonghyuk paid the fee to keep their telepathic bond/messaging app active for three years. It does not help that the messaging app in question is called "Midday Tryst".
  • Most characters think Kim Dokja is gay when taking his relationship with Yoo Jonghyuk into account. In Dokja's defense, he's too focused on trying to survive the scenarios to correct them outside of an annoyed huff or rolled eyes. There's also the fact that he's so attached to Yoo Jonghyuk because he had read and practically devoted his entire life up to that point to an entire novel about Yoo Jonghuk's journeys through the Scenarios.
  • When comparing people's beauties, Dokja always seems to bring up how handsome Yoo Jonghyuk is and whether or not said person can beat Yoo Jonghyuk's level of handsomeness.
  • In the webtoon, the first time Yoo Jonghyuk ever smiles is when he has Dokja held up by his throat, and when he tries to use his ability to see Dokja's profile but fails, he then asks Dokja to prove to him that he was really a prophet. When Dokja tells him he will drop him, Yoo Jonghyuk smiles at he lets go of Dokja and tells him he does believe he's a prophet. He rarely smiles around anyone.
  • During the Cinema Master's level Kim Dokja tries to talk to Yoo Jonghyuk by yelling that he knows all about his past from being betrayed by a friend, falling in love only to lose his child and more even telling him not to give up. When he later hands Lee Jihye a note he asks to give to Yoo Jonghyuk when he wakes up, she mistakes it as a love letter and the two as old lovers. She even tries to repeat all that Kim Dokja had yelled out earlier in a panic. She also somehow misheard Kim Dokja and thinks he and Yoo Jonghyuk had adopted a child together. Then again the Scenarios relating to these revelations were filtered out quite a bit from even the Constellations by the Star Stream, so it becomes a little more understandable for such a misunderstanding to happen.
Lee Jihye: "I'll always be by your side! Don't you ever lose hope! Think about our child!"
Kim Dokja: What... I never said anything like that...
[The Constellation Demon-like Judge of Fire, is delighted by your comradeship.]
    • She then promises to pass on Dokja's "love letter" to Yoo Jonghyuk one he awakens.
  • As Kim Dokja and Han Sooyoung come across Yoo Jonghyuk again, Dokja looks after him since he couldn't move. He makes some soup and even spoon feeds the food into an immobile Yoo Jonghyuk's mouth. Han Sooyoung snarks that the two would make a good couple.
  • After Dokja returns with a white overcoat, Han Sooyoung immediately points out that it stood in contrast to Yoo Jonghyuk's black overcoat. Dokja insists in annoyance that all of the overcoats had the same model so he didn't pick it by choice. Meanwhile, the Demonic Judge of Fire is happily spamming Dokja with coins after seeing this.
  • Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung get into an argument on whom Kim Dokja likes in the party, with Yoosung claiming Kim Dokja clearly likes Han Sooyoung. Gilyeong fires back by saying, "I think you are misinformed. Hyung likes a man." While he never says his name, Gilyeong is clearly referring to Yoo Jonghyuk.
  • Shin Yoosung's Catastrophe form from Yoo Jonghyuk's past run attempts to kill him, only for Dokja to push Yoo Jonghyuk out of the way and losing half of his lower body in the process. As he starts to die Yoo Jonghyuk is cradling Kim Dokja and then angrily declaring he was going to kill Shin Yoosung this round. When she asks who Kim Dokja was to him, Yoo Jonghyuk calls Kim Dokja his companion, which confuses Dokja. This Shin Yoosung, when she died during one of Yoo Jonghyuk's run barely got a glimpse from him, but Dokja dying in his arms gets him to go violently berserk.
  • When Dokja recalls getting drunk because of Dionysus, Yoo Jonghyuk immediately sounds annoyed when he asks if Dokja had kissed Yoo Sanghah.
    • He also outwardly ignores Dokja while choosing who would be participating in the next scenario, with his expressions and attitude akin to someone who had walked in on their lover cheating. The group even come together to speculate Yoo Jonghyuk's behavior and come to the conclusion he was jealous.
    • Uriel begins spamming about Dokja and Jonghyuk's "comradeship", which confuses Huiwon, but causes Jihye to laugh uncontrollably at the implication.
  • Lee Seolhwa, Yoo Jonghuk's lover in his past regression, makes note of how different Yoo Jonghyuk acts around Kim Dokja. Except she notes that he never did any of those things for her.
  • As they face Nirvana, Yoo Jonghyuk turns them down, claiming he already has a companion, while clearly looking at Dokja as he says that.
  • As the Demon King of Salvation, Dokja warns Asmodeus to keep his hands off of Yoo Jonghyuk.
Dokja: Don't touch my incarnation, Asmodeus.
  • Yoo Jonghyuk sounds slightly disappointed when he meets Lee Sookyung and notes that she didn't seem to like him at all with Dokja looking at him in confusion.
  • The Queen of Darkest Spring actually takes the form of Yoo Jonghyuk one time, believing it was to Dokja's taste. Dokja just notes that it was a misunderstanding, and he's glad she wasn't wearing a qipao like those other times.
  • Secretive Plotter also acts fairly jealous towards Yoo Jonghyuk, because Dokja "chose" him over them.
Secretive Plotter: Why is it him, not me?
    • The way Secretive Plotter kidnaps Dokja and Yoo Jonghyuk rewatches that moment over and over again.
  • Let's not forget that when Kim Dokja is sent to an altered 1863rd turn by Secretive Plotter, the only reason why the suicidal Yoo Joonghyuk of that turn decides to sacrifice himself and regress one more time is because he saw the world where Kim Dokja existed and wanted to see it with his own eyes.

Others

  • When Lee Jihye is stuck with the group and ends up looking for Yoo Jonghyuk, she cozies up to Jeong Huiwon quickly with the two bonding over their skills with swords. Dokja asks why she was acting so much nicer to Jeong Huiwon while he was threatened upon their first meeting, and Jihye claims she's weak to Unnies note .
  • Lee Hyeonseong's admiration for Kim Dokja could almost be read as a little crush. In the webtoons he's portrayed with sparkling eyes and a small blush on his face when Dokja helps him out or compliments him.
    • When he's protecting the island in the webtoons, his inner thoughts show him getting annoyed and wondering where Dokja was. The moment he hears his voice, it looks like a Crush Filter as Dokja is glowing while running towards him. Hyeonseong nearly goes over to hug Dokja and gets dejected when Dokja doesn't spare the time to ask how he was.
    • As the others discuss Yoo Jonghyuk's possible jealousy over seeing what appeared to be Dokja and Sangah sharing a kiss, Hyeonseong brings up how even if he saw something like that, he wouldn't have liked it. Demon-like Judge of Fire is notably unamused by Hyeonseong's "comradeship" and doesn't approve.
  • Kim Dokja and Bihyung technically have a child together, a dokkaebi named Bihyoo.
  • After meeting Jang Hayoung, Dokja's internal monologue constantly notes what a beautiful man he is.
  • It's stated that the Demon-like Judge of Fire's obsession with Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk's "companionship" is because their dynamic reminds her of her own "companionship" with the constellation Lily Blooming in Aquarius.
  • Nirvana tells Yoo Joonghyuk to "become one with me", and gets offended when Yoo Joonghyuk doesn't show an interest in them.
  • Secretive Plotter and Oldest Dream basically live together at the end of the story.
