Heartwarming / The Painted Canoe

• Carina and Zachariah become much closer to one another in the last third of the novel, when it's clear that his cancer condition is going to be terminal. Also, there's Mr. Wilson's refusal to abandon Zachariah in his moment of illness, in spite of the other villagers' having done so.
